How to reach the island, ticket and ferry schedule

Qinshan Island (秦山岛) is a narrow island of reefs and tidal flats in Ganyu District. You must take a ferry from Qindao Tianlai Land-Island Yacht Terminal or the Qinshan Island Visitor Centre. The crossing takes about 20 minutes, and the island pier is the main arrival and departure point. The adult package is usually about CNY 140, including the return ferry and scenic-area admission.

Ferry times depend on the tide and can differ every day. Use the “Qinshan Island Scenic Area” WeChat mini-program to make a real-name reservation and buy the ferry ticket, then use the target date's listed departure and return times. Each ferry carries about 80 passengers and stops selling when full. Arrive at the pier at least 40 minutes early.

How much time to allow

Allow about 2 hours for the Sea Route marker, General's Rock and the coastal views. A fuller visit takes about 4 hours if you add Granny Temple, the air-raid shelter and Xu Fu Well. The island is mainly explored on foot, and the ferry schedule determines the actual time available.

The Sea Route

The “Sea Route” is a gravel path that appears and disappears with the tide. It is more likely to show in full around the large low tides near the first and fifteenth days of the lunar month. The Sea Route marker is good for a portrait or group photograph, while General's Rock Viewpoint gives a wide view of the path extending into the sea. The complete route still depends on the day's tide and open areas.

Tidal-flat exploration and historic remains

The reefs beside the Sea Route can be used for a small-scale tidal-flat experience, such as looking for small crabs and shells under rocks, but only within the safe open area. Qinshan also retains Granny Temple, Xu Fu Well and an old military air-raid shelter. The shelter has uneven internal passages; enter only when it is open and safe.

Photography and visitor fit

Sunny mornings give clearer water and work well for the boardwalk and reef views. Sunset gives softer light for silhouettes. Qinshan Island suits visitors who like a lightly developed island, family tidal-flat activities, military history and quiet walking. It is not a conventional sandy beach resort.

Build your day

A 2-hour quick route

Island pier → coastal boardwalk → Sea Route marker → General's Rock Viewpoint → return to the pier for the ferry. This route focuses on the sea views and the Sea Route without entering the air-raid shelter, which suits a short ferry interval or a first exploratory visit.

A 4-hour full route

Island pier → coastal boardwalk → Sea Route → General's Rock → Granny Temple and air-raid shelter entrance → Xu Fu Well → return to the pier. Reefs, the shelter entrance and the hillside paths increase the walking difficulty. Leave enough time to get back to the pier before the booked return ferry.

Tide and return planning

If you want to see the full Sea Route or explore the tidal flats, choose the ferry after checking the tide for the target date. Do not continue outward on the tidal flats when the return time is approaching; reaching the pier for the booked ferry takes priority over another photograph or shell.

Get there

Pier and high-speed rail

Drivers can navigate to Qindao Tianlai Land-Island Yacht Terminal or Qinshan Island Visitor Centre. After parking, use the free transfer vehicle or walk to the boarding point. From Ganyu Railway Station, a taxi ride to the pier takes about 30 minutes. Parking at the pier is generally practical, but taxis can be difficult to find for the return journey.

Moving around the island

Qinshan is small and mainly uses walking routes; the sightseeing vehicle has limited departures. Carry your sun protection, water and essential equipment on the island rather than relying on the parked car.

Know before you go

Ferry tickets and tide

Reserve the ferry ticket with your real name in advance; holiday seats can sell out. The day's arrival and departure times can change, so arrange every transfer around the listed ferry. A large low tide near the first or fifteenth day of the lunar month may reveal more of the Sea Route, but wind, waves and access conditions still vary by day.

Shoes, gloves and food

The island is rocky. Wear high rubber boots or other protective waterproof shoes and bring thick gloves; do not walk the reefs in sandals or bare feet. A small bucket and shovel are enough for a simple tidal-flat activity. Food choices are limited, so bring enough water, dry food and simple supplies.

Nearby combinations

If time allows after returning, visit Ganyu's Haizhou Bay Ocean Park or continue to central Ganyu. Erdao Street has local snacks such as squid roujiamo, fruit soup and fried rice. Put the meal after the island visit and keep the ferry return as the fixed point of the day.
