Location, ticket and opening arrangements
Taohuajian Scenic Area (桃花涧景区) is at No. 18 Jinping Road in Jinping Town, Haizhou District. It has one main entrance on Jinping Road. The current ticket information lists an adult ticket of CNY 30 in the March–October peak period and free entry from November to February. Children under 1.4 metres enter free, students and older visitors receive half-price admission, and the Lianyungang tourist pass can be used for free entry. Opening is usually around 08:00–17:00, with seasonal adjustments; advance reservation is not normally required.
How much time to allow
Allow 1–1.5 hours for the General's Cliff Rock Carvings. A 2–3 hour route can include Peach Blossom Pool, Peach Blossom Bridge, the stream valley, Zizhu Forest Temple and the loop descent. The area suits families, nature walks and visitors interested in early rock art. Rainfall changes both the water level and the condition of the paths.

The General's Cliff Rock Carvings
The General's Cliff Rock Carvings, sometimes called the “Oriental Heavenly Book”, are the main cultural attraction. A small uphill path on the right after the entrance reaches the carvings in about 10 minutes. If time is limited, see the rock art first and decide afterwards whether to continue through the stream valley.
Peach Blossom Pool, streams and seasonal scenery
Peach Blossom Pool, Peach Blossom Bridge and the wooden path along the stream are the main landscape stops. The shallow sections are suitable for summer water play. Peach blossoms are at their best in March and April, while autumn brings red leaves. Waterfalls may be small in the dry season and are more visible after rain or in summer.
Photography and visitor fit
Peach Blossom Pool and Peach Blossom Bridge work for reflections of flowers and running water. The swing near Fengyang Pavilion combines the stream with a person in the frame. A descending boardwalk east of the small summit pavilion gives a valley-and-sunset view. Taohuajian suits families, nature lovers and visitors who want to see prehistoric rock art.
Build your day
A 1–1.5 hour quick route
Enter and walk straight for about 300 metres. Take the small path on the right and climb for about 10 minutes to the General's Cliff Rock Carvings, then return the same way. This is the shortest option for visitors who want the main cultural stop or a brief visit between other city attractions.
A 2–3 hour full route
Entrance → Peach Blossom Pool → Peach Blossom Bridge → right-hand uphill path to the General's Cliff Rock Carvings and back to the fork → follow the Taohuajian stream uphill → Zizhu Forest Temple → loop descent → exit. This route combines rock art, water, a temple and seasonal scenery; adjust the stream section to the day's water level and footing.
Water play and photography
Families who want water play can place the stream section at the warmer part of the day and visit the rock carvings before or after it. Visitors photographing blossom, reflections or sunset should adjust the stops to the season and daylight rather than use the same timing throughout the year.
Get there
Bus and driving
From the city, bus 3 runs toward Jinping Terminus, and bus 4 runs between Lianyungang Railway Station and Xinba Passenger Station. Drivers can navigate to Taohuajian Scenic Area; parking is listed at about CNY 10 per day.
Entrance and walking inside
The main entrance is on Jinping Road. After entering, start at Peach Blossom Pool and Peach Blossom Bridge, then choose the rock-carving path or stream route. The uphill path and stream steps are not suitable for sandals; families should allow time for wet shallows and the return walk.
Know before you go
Water, weather and equipment
Waterfalls are often fuller after rain, but the rocks are also more slippery. In summer, bring mosquito repellent, sun protection, water and a small amount of food. Food options inside the scenic area are limited, so plan the main meal elsewhere.
Seasonal activities
Weekend “wild-man” performances may be arranged during some periods, but they are not necessarily available on weekdays. Times and sessions can change with the day's operation, so treat the rock art and stream route as the fixed plan rather than building the whole visit around a temporary show.
Nearby combinations
After Taohuajian, you can visit the former Jinping Phosphate Mine site, now used as a café, or drive to Kongwang Mountain and Haizhou Ancient Town. Haizhou Ancient Town has more food choices, so Taohuajian works well as a morning or afternoon stop followed by a meal in the old town.
