Plan at a glance

Location and entrances

Nine Curves and Eighteen Bends is along kilometers 473–477 of the Jiamo Highway, in the Tuqiang Forestry Bureau's operating area. It is about 16 kilometers, or a 20-minute drive, from downtown Mohe. The paid observation tower has its own entrance. Another wetland entrance, about a five-minute drive farther along the road, is free; the two entrances have separate parking areas.

Tickets and opening hours

The observation tower ticket is listed at about CNY 50 per person, and reservations are usually not required. Check the day's operating hours for ticket sales and tower access. The free wetland boardwalk starts at a separate entrance on the highway and requires a drive to reach.

How long to allow

Allow about 30 to 60 minutes for the tower alone. If you also visit the free wetland trail, plan for at least two hours. The tower is about a two- to three-minute walk from its parking lot; reaching the river from the free wetland entrance requires a longer walk along the boardwalk.

Choose your visit

Tenglong Pavilion observation tower

The five-story tower looks out over bends in the Eermu River and the surrounding wetland. It is the main experience at the paid entrance. There are stairs inside; climb to the top for views across the river and woodland, or stay at ground level if you prefer to avoid the stairs.

Free wetland boardwalk

The wetland has about 1,500 meters of boardwalk through birch woodland and wetland. Follow the on-site route signs toward the Eermu River and use the marked turnaround point. The trail suits visitors who want a longer walk beyond the tower platform; the ground is less even than around the tower parking lot.

Forest railway and seasonal scenery

A train sometimes passes through the forest, but its timing is not fixed; plan your visit around the tower and boardwalk instead. The foliage is usually most visibly changing around mid- to late September. On a clear morning, the light is good for viewing the wetland and treetops.

Build your day

A short visit to the tower

Enter through the ticketed entrance, park in the scenic-area lot and walk about two to three minutes to Tenglong Pavilion. Climb the interior stairs for views of the Eermu River and wetland. After taking photos and looking around, return to the parking lot. Allow about 30 to 60 minutes in total.

Combining the two entrances

First, take in the wetland from the observation tower. Return to the parking lot and drive about five minutes farther along the road to the free wetland trail entrance. The boardwalk here is about 1,500 meters; follow the route signs toward the Eermu River and turn back at the signed turnaround point. The entrances are separate and require a drive between them, so allow at least two hours for the combined visit.

Pickup and return

If you hire a car, agree in advance on the parking, waiting time and pickup point for each entrance. Leave from the parking lot by the tower after that visit; the free wetland trail starts at a different entrance along the highway.

Get there

From downtown Mohe

There is no public transport to Nine Curves and Eighteen Bends; drive or hire a car. The scenic area is about 16 kilometers and a 20-minute drive from downtown Mohe. If you want to visit both wetland entrances, arrange for a driver to wait at the tower and continue to the second entrance.

Parking and chartered-car costs

There is free parking at the observation-tower entrance. A round-trip charter may cost around CNY 80–100. Agree on the fare in advance and confirm whether it includes the drive to the second entrance and waiting time while you walk.

Know before you go

Stairs, boardwalk and mobility

The stairs in Tenglong Pavilion and the wetland boardwalk involve different kinds of walking: the tower requires climbing, while the wetland boardwalk is about 1,500 meters. Some sections may be slippery or uneven; check the entrance signs for the route and turnaround point. Older visitors, children and anyone with limited mobility can stay at ground level by the tower and decide whether to walk the wetland trail based on their group's needs.

Weather and photography

The boardwalk and forest paths may be slippery after rain or snowmelt; wear shoes with good traction and slow down. The observation tower has views over the river bend. Viewing scopes and similar facilities may cost extra, so ask the price before using them. Trains pass at unpredictable times; plan around the time needed for the trail and tower.

Food and return

There is no food service in the scenic area, so bring water. After the visit, you can eat in Tuqiang Town or return to downtown Mohe; if you are continuing to Beihong Village that day, plan to eat there instead. If a driver is picking you up, confirm the waiting time and return arrangements between the two entrances.
