Plan at a glance

Entry and the visit area

Hengdaohezi Northeast Tiger Park is beside National Highway 301 in Hengdaohezi Town, Hailin, and has one entrance. The park is large, with the free-range area, cub pavilion, tiger-viewing corridor and rare-animal area in different locations. Confirm the sightseeing-vehicle route after entering.

Tickets and opening hours

Adult admission is about CNY 50, or about CNY 40–45 online. Children under 1.2 metres enter free, and the sightseeing vehicle costs about CNY 10. Use 08:00–16:30 as the reference opening period and aim to enter by 15:00 at the latest. Confirm prices and projects at the ticket window that day.

Choose your visit

The cub pavilion

The cub pavilion is a good place to observe young tigers, and mornings often offer a more active viewing period. It is a useful indoor stop to prioritise on the short route, but its opening, viewing areas and on-site management follow the arrangements for that day.

The vehicle through the free-range area

The sightseeing vehicle takes visitors into a free-range area of about 500,000 square metres, where they can observe Siberian tigers resting and moving around from inside the vehicle. The park is too large to cover this section on foot. Remain inside the vehicle or in the designated position; do not knock on the vehicle or lean any part of your body outside.

The tiger-viewing corridor and education area

The 408-metre tiger-viewing corridor has observation and feeding positions. The rare-animal area and education centre add information about tigers and other animals. If you want to give more time to the cubs and free-range area, leave the corridor until the final stop and take the vehicle directly after entering.

For the railway museum route nearby, see Chinese Eastern Railway Locomotive Depot.

Build your day

The 1.5–2-hour fast route

After entering, take the sightseeing vehicle into the free-range area, then visit the cub pavilion and finish at the 408-metre tiger-viewing corridor. If meat-strip feeding is available, buy only a small amount and follow the ticket-window rules. Return to the exit along the main path, working backwards from the recommended 15:00 latest entry.

The 2–3-hour complete route

Aim to enter between 09:00 and 10:00. See the cubs first, then take the sightseeing vehicle through the free-range area, walk through the rare-animal area and education centre, and finish at the tiger-viewing corridor. Queues for the sightseeing vehicle and animal activity can affect the time spent at each stop, so follow the pace on site.

Why visit in the morning

Prioritise the cub pavilion and free-range area in the morning. If you can visit only in the afternoon, first confirm the operating hours of the sightseeing vehicle and cub pavilion, and treat the 16:30 closing time as the deadline for leaving.

Get there

High-speed rail or self-driving

From Harbin or Mudanjiang, take a high-speed train to Hengdaohezi East Station, then take a taxi for about 5–10 minutes from the station. Driving takes about one hour from Mudanjiang or about three hours from Harbin; after leaving the expressway at the Hengdaohezi exit, the park is about 500 metres away. There is no metro service to the park.

Entrance and parking

The main gate has a large free car park, and the sightseeing vehicle is the main way to reach the free-range area. A return taxi may take longer to find in peak season. If you are not staying in town, confirm with the driver on arrival whether they will wait or how you will return.

Know before you go

Feeding and animal welfare

The price of a meat strip, about CNY 10, is only a reference for a possible on-site activity. Whether feeding is available and where it takes place follow the park's rules. Do not buy live chickens or other live animals for feeding, and do not provoke animals to chase. Keep your hands behind the railings, and do not hang scarves, handkerchiefs or other items on them, as they could be caught by an animal or facility.

Photography and distance

Flash photography is prohibited throughout the park. Observe and feed only at the designated positions along the tiger-viewing corridor. Do not lean or climb outside the vehicle to take photos, and keep the distance required by staff in the cub pavilion. If the tigers are out of sight, wait patiently rather than knocking on the railings to attract them.

Combining the park with the town

After the tiger park, return to Hengdaohezi Town to visit the locomotive depot and Oil Painting Village. These are separate products, so confirm their tickets and opening hours independently. There are food options such as jinbing flatbread near the expressway exit; when return vehicles are scarce, arrange transport before starting the town walk.
