Location and the visitor center
The archaeological site park is in Datangping Township, Xinjian District. The visitor center is the usual starting point. Depending on the day’s operation, visitors can move between the visitor center, the site museum, and Liu He Cemetery by sightseeing bus, on foot, or by shared bicycle. Private cars should remain near the visitor center.
Ticket, operating hours, and optional activities
The main park ticket is about CNY 60 and does not include the sightseeing bus, which costs about CNY 15. The park currently opens about 09:00–17:00, with last entry at 16:00; the Haihun Marquis Site Museum is open on Mondays. “Yujian Haihun” (遇见海昏) is an interactive museum zone rather than a separate fixed show. Optional activities include “Zhongming Haihun” (钟鸣海昏), about CNY 30 for adults and CNY 15 for children, and the “Haihun Six Arts Tour” (海昏六艺游), about CNY 108. Activities and prices can change.
How long to allow
For the museum’s key galleries and Liu He Cemetery, allow 2–2.5 hours. A fuller exhibition visit combined with “Zhongming Haihun” or the “Haihun Six Arts Tour” takes about 3.5–4 hours. Count the movement around the park, walking from stops, gallery queues, and time outdoors at the cemetery; if time is tight, check the sightseeing-bus schedule first.

“Jinse Haihun” and Han dynasty objects
The museum’s “Jinse Haihun” (金色海昏) exhibition is a priority for a first visit and focuses on gold objects and coins excavated from Liu He’s tomb. The tomb yielded 478 gold objects, including 385 gold cakes, as well as about two million Wuzhu coins. The number and cases on display follow the current exhibition, so use the day’s gallery layout. History and archaeology enthusiasts can combine the objects with the available interpretation to understand Liu He’s tomb and the Haihun Marquis Kingdom.
Liu He Cemetery and the Zijin City site
Liu He Cemetery sits in an open archaeological landscape, where you can see the burial mound and the spatial layout revealed by the excavation. From outside the museum, you can also look toward clues of the Zijin City site. The visit moves between museum objects and an outdoor archaeological setting, so the cemetery section requires walking and protection from sun or rain.
Interactive zone and cultural activities
“Yujian Haihun” is an interactive museum zone that forms part of the museum display together with “Jinse Haihun” (金色海昏), “Shuxiang Haihun” (书香海昏), and “Danqi Haihun” (丹漆海昏). For a separate cultural activity, look for “Zhongming Haihun” or the “Haihun Six Arts Tour.” The former is about CNY 30 for adults and CNY 15 for children; the latter is about CNY 108. The 2–2.5 hour focused route
Start at the visitor center, complete the day’s entry procedure and ticket purchase, then choose a sightseeing bus, walking, or shared bicycle according to time, energy, and the on-site arrangement. When time is limited, the sightseeing bus costs about CNY 15 and saves movement time. Visit the museum’s “Jinse Haihun” exhibition first, continue to Liu He Cemetery, and return to the visitor center after the outdoor section.
The 3.5–4 hour full route
After entering at the visitor center, tour the museum galleries in full and then arrange Liu He Cemetery according to the day’s access. Between the two, choose the sightseeing bus, walking, or a shared bicycle. If you add “Zhongming Haihun” or the “Haihun Six Arts Tour,” confirm its time first, then fit in the cemetery and return without cutting the necessary outdoor walk short.
Sightseeing bus and outdoor walking
Between the museum and cemetery, follow the site directions for the sightseeing bus, walking, or shared bicycle. After getting off or parking the bicycle, you still need to walk to the building or archaeological area. Waiting time, bicycle availability, stop distances, and the last bus follow the on-site arrangement; confirm how you will return to the visitor center before entering the cemetery section.
Get there
Driving and visitor-center parking
Navigate to “Nanchang Han Dynasty Haihun Marquis National Archaeological Site Park” or the visitor-center parking area. Parking is charged according to the day’s on-site rules; for a small car, the first hour is about CNY 2, followed by tiered charges. After parking, choose the sightseeing bus, walk, or use a shared bicycle according to the site directions. Organize luggage and water at the visitor center.
Public transport and taxis
Bus 666, as well as Routes 137 and K137, can reach the archaeological site park, but some services are infrequent, so plan the return before setting out. From September 11, 2026, the summer direct service from Nanchang West Long-distance Bus Station to the park has been suspended. Route 666’s last return bus is at 17:30; confirm the day’s timetable before relying on it.
Know before you go
Reservations, last entry, and movement inside the park
Handle reservations, tickets, sightseeing-bus products, and cultural activities through the official WeChat account or the day’s ticket page; checking ahead is useful for holidays. The current opening window is about 09:00–17:00, with last entry at 16:00, and the site museum is open on Mondays. Late arrivals still need time for the galleries and the walk at the tomb park, and all movement follows the day’s departure and access arrangements.
Weather, walking, and interpretation
The cemetery is exposed to the weather, and walking is also required between the museum and the cemetery area. Use sun protection in clear weather and take care on wet ground after rain. Electronic guides, rental equipment, and free guided tours depend on the day’s services. When photographing the gold objects, reflections and low light can affect the image; stay behind the cases and keep the viewing area clear.
Food and the separate location
The visitor center has simple food such as rice noodles and clay-pot soup at Haihun Sao. Food choices inside the park are limited, so longer visits benefit from carrying water and a small snack. The archaeological park is far from central Nanchang and is best planned as a separate outing rather than a walking or tightly connected route with Tengwang Pavilion or Bayi Square.
