Location, entrances, and scope
Tengwang Pavilion Tourist Area is at 58 Fanggu Street (仿古街) in Donghu District. The South and East Gates are the main entrances; the North Gate is near Dieshan Road and works better as an exit for a short visit. First-time visitors who want both the pavilion and the gardens can combine the main pavilion, the north and south stele corridors, and North Garden. If the main goal is the river view, focus on the pavilion and its viewing levels.
Free areas, paid core, and entry slots
After the expansion, about 90% of the tourist area is free to enter, including public sections such as North Garden. The main pavilion and other paid core areas require a ticket; adult admission is about CNY 50. The area commonly operates around 08:00–22:00, while the main pavilion and paid core areas use the entry time shown on the ticket page. Night pavilion-entry products and the “Dream of Tengwang Pavilion” show have separate prices, sessions, and inclusions. Same-day rules still apply to concessions such as free admission for visitors aged 65 and above or children under 1.4 m.
How much time to allow
For only the main pavilion and the fifth-floor viewing platform, allow about 1–1.5 hours. To include the stele corridors, North Garden, and the nearby district, allow 3–4 hours. Queues, crowds, and the lighting schedule can change the time needed around sunset and at night.

What to see inside the pavilion
The main pavilion has a structure with three visible stories and seven internal levels. The fifth-floor viewing platform looks toward the Gan River and Bayi Bridge, while the seventh-floor “Square Heaven, Round Earth” caisson ceiling is a detailed interior feature. Visitors interested in history can focus on the floor plan, furnishings, and steles; photographers can combine the river view with the South Gate archway and the city skyline.
Stele corridors, North Garden, and the landscape section
The north and south stele corridors are worth slowing down for after the pavilion, especially if you want to look at the calligraphy and the surrounding architecture. North Garden has a traditional opera stage, a zigzag bridge, and water reflections, making it quieter than the high-level viewing areas. Its free performances are not scheduled every day, so stay longer only when a performance is actually running.
Daylight, night views, and who will enjoy it
Daytime is better for the pavilion’s proportions, stele inscriptions, and views across the Gan River. At night, the lit pavilion and garden reflections become the main subjects. Older visitors and children may find the narrow stairs and warm interior levels tiring; photographers can choose among the fifth-floor platform, South Gate archway, North Garden’s zigzag bridge, and the distant viewpoint at Times Square.

Build your day
The 3–4 hour full route
Enter through the South Gate, go up to the fifth-floor viewing platform, and continue to the seventh-floor caisson ceiling. After descending, follow the north and south stele corridors and finish in North Garden for the opera stage, zigzag bridge, and any performance scheduled that day. If the North Gate is open and the on-site route allows it, leave there and walk to Wanshougong Historical and Cultural District for food or an evening stop.
The 1–1.5 hour short route
When time is limited, enter at the South Gate, go first to the fifth-floor platform, and check the seventh-floor ceiling if the queue allows. Then take the shortest route out through the North Gate. The stairs are narrow and some levels are warm, so do not try to add the stele corridors and North Garden to a very short visit.
Managing the climb
The pavilion stairs are narrow, and some levels have limited ventilation and higher temperatures. An elevator can reduce the climb, but it may have a queue during holidays. Finish the pavilion first, then decide whether to spend more time in the stele corridors and North Garden; this keeps the main viewing section intact if waiting times or temporary crowd controls change.
Get there
Metro, buses, and navigation
Take Line 1 to Tengwang Pavilion Station (滕王阁站) or Wanshou Palace Station (万寿宫站), then walk about 10 minutes. Buses 2, 7, and 26 also serve the area. Navigate to “Tengwang Pavilion Tourist Area” or 58 Fanggu Street, then choose the South, East, or North Gate; a pin for the main pavilion does not replace an entrance location.
Driving and parking
There is parking near the South Gate, but riverside roads may have time-based restrictions or traffic controls. Public transport is usually easier on weekends, during evening visits, and around large events. Drivers should check the parking status and the intended gate before setting out.
Know before you go
Recitation, lighting, and performances
The “free admission for reciting the Preface to Tengwang Pavilion (《滕王阁序》)” activity at the South Gate visitor center is currently offered on a regular basis. The public process uses Alipay registration linked to identity verification. Visitors using passports or other overseas documents should confirm at the South Gate visitor center whether they can join that day and how verification works. North Garden performances, night shows, lighting, and Gan River cruises all follow the day’s arrangements; read the inclusions of each product when booking.
Queues, weather, and photography
The elevator and popular viewing levels may queue during holidays, and nighttime crowds can be heavy. The fifth floor is good for the river and sunset, while North Garden’s zigzag bridge works for reflections of the pavilion. Rain, heat, and dense crowds can affect stair safety, walking speed, photography, and the time you spend inside.
Food and leaving the area
The nearby Wanshougong Historical and Cultural District has concentrated options for rice noodles, clay-pot soup, white sugar cake, and Hugeng thick soup, along with places to rest and eat. Public interpretation and commercial guiding are different services. After leaving, decide whether to continue to the district, eat, or take a cruise according to that day’s time and operating conditions.
