Address and the actual visitor entrance
The memorial hall is at 380 Zhongshan Road in Xihu District, about a three-minute walk from Exit 5 of Bayi Memorial Station (八一馆站) on Line 1 or Line 3. The visitor entrance is inside Jewelry Street (珠宝街). After you see the building along the street, continue alongside the wall; queues and ticket checks use the entrance inside Jewelry Street.
Free admission, reservations, and opening anchors
Admission is free. The regular release time is 21:00 each day, with reservations available up to seven days ahead; extra same-day tickets may be added during holidays. Passports, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan travel permits, and Foreign Permanent Resident ID Cards are supported. Overseas visitors should reserve with the same document they will bring and carry the original document and reservation QR code. Normal hours are Tuesday–Sunday 09:00–17:00, with last entry at 16:30; Mondays are closed, and holiday arrangements may differ.
The two buildings
The New Hall is the exhibition building and gives the uprising its full historical narrative. The former Jiangxi Grand Hotel site preserves meeting rooms, the Celebration Hall, and other historic spaces, so the architecture is part of the visit. With limited time, see the key sections in both; with more time, complete the New Hall first and then walk into the former site.

The New Hall introduction and battle scenes
The first-floor “Shipotianjing” (石破天惊) introductory hall has a large pistol sculpture. The “First Shot” immersive area (打响第一枪) uses sound, light, and visual effects to recreate the battle setting. First-time visitors can prioritize the introductory hall, the Decision-Making Hall, and the battle-scene reconstruction.
The former Jiangxi Grand Hotel site
The former site focuses on historic rooms and architectural details. Its Baroque-style Republican-era facade, blue-gray walls, and square-loop interior layout reward a slower visit. It suits visitors interested in city architecture, meeting spaces, and the physical locations connected with the event.
Talks and suitable visitor types
Free guided tours are often offered around 09:30–11:00 and 14:00–16:00, but the actual sessions are posted inside the hall. History and museum enthusiasts can follow the full exhibition. Families can start with the introductory hall and battle scenes, then decide whether to continue into the former site according to the children’s energy.

Build your day
The 1–1.5 hour focused route
Enter through the Jewelry Street entrance and start in the New Hall. See the first-floor “Shipotianjing” introductory hall, then the “First Shot” experience area and the main sections along the on-site route. Continue to the first floor of the former Jiangxi Grand Hotel site for the facade, loop layout, and principal historic rooms. If your reservation window is tight, complete the New Hall before moving to the former site.
The 2–3 hour full route
Follow the New Hall exhibition sequence, with priority on the introductory hall, Decision-Making Hall, and battle-scene reconstruction. Then enter the former Jiangxi Grand Hotel site and visit the meeting rooms and Celebration Hall. If a guided tour is running, fit it into the New Hall or former-site section it covers rather than disrupting your reservation window.
Pacing the former-site section
The former site is best taken slowly, with attention to room scale, connections between rooms, and preserved traces of the past. When it is busy, follow the one-way route through the main spaces first, then return to details where stopping is allowed. The connection between the New Hall and former site can change with on-site management, so follow the signs when moving between them.

Metro and the Jewelry Street walk
Take Line 1 or Line 3 to Bayi Memorial Station and leave from Exit 5. Walk toward Jewelry Street for about three minutes. Navigate to “Nanchang August 1 Uprising Memorial Hall” and look for the visitor entrance inside Jewelry Street; a map pin at the street-facing building may not show the actual queue location.
Old-city walking and nearby stops
The memorial hall is in the old city, so the approach and the exit both involve Jewelry Street and nearby lanes. After the visit, you can walk to Wanshougong Historical and Cultural District or eat along Jewelry Street. Check the reservation window and closing time before adding another stop.

Talks, photography, and souvenirs
Free talks follow the notices inside the hall, and photography or talk areas are subject to on-site management. The hall sells items such as the Arsenal plush series; replica pistol models may be difficult to take through high-speed rail security, so consider your onward travel before buying one.
Food and queues nearby
Jewelry Street and the Wanshougong area have rice noodles, clay-pot soup, white sugar cake, mung-bean cakes, and restaurants such as Jijihong hot pot. Lunch and dinner queues can take up walking time, so complete the New Hall and former site within the reservation window and keep food for the flexible period after leaving.
