Plan at a glance
Ferris wheel plaza and boarding entrance
Star of Nanchang is at 1 Ganjiang South Avenue in Honggutan District. The entrance is around the Ferris wheel plaza, near Ganjiang Citizen Park. After buying a ticket, follow the plaza route to the check-in and boarding point. Visitors who are not riding can start with the surrounding public spaces and an external viewing walk.
Ticket, last entry, and weather
Adult admission is about CNY 50, and online platforms have listed prices around CNY 48. No reservation is required; buy online or on site. The usual operating window is about 09:00–23:00, with last entry at 22:00. Thunderstorms and strong winds may stop the ride, so ticket prices, last entry, and suspension arrangements should be checked for the day.
One rotation and time needed
The wheel is about 160 m high, and one rotation takes about 30 minutes, giving views across the Gan River and the city. Allow 0.5–1 hour for exterior photos and the city landmark. A ticketed ride, including purchase, queue, boarding, and exit, usually takes 1–1.5 hours; weekend evenings may add waiting time.

The city view from a cabin
From the cabin, you can see the Gan River, Bayi Bridge, and the Honggutan skyline from changing heights. The transition from sunset to night shows the most noticeable change in light. The cabins are air-conditioned, but reflections, cleanliness, and weather affect clarity, so treat the ride as a city-view experience rather than a guaranteed photo setup.
The free exterior viewing route
You can see the full wheel without buying a ride ticket. The open escalator at Gate 2 of Nanchang MixC is good for an upward view, and the fourth-floor viewing platform frames the wheel with the city. From the Chaoyang riverfront park direction, you can place the wheel, Gan River, and Bayi Bridge in one distant view.
Good times to visit
Couples, families, and visitors looking for a night view may prefer the ride. Photographers can choose exterior viewpoints before sunset or after the lights come on. Sunset changes by date; 18:30–19:30 only fits some seasons, so adjust for the actual sunset and operating window.
Build your day
The 0.5–1 hour exterior route
Start at the Ferris wheel plaza, then walk or cross to the open escalator at Gate 2 of Nanchang MixC. Photograph the wheel from below as you move upward, and use the fourth-floor viewing platform if it is open. For a wider Gan River and Bayi Bridge view, continue toward a public viewpoint on the opposite-bank side. This route stays outside the boarding queue.
The 1–1.5 hour ride route
At the plaza check-in point, confirm the day’s ticket price, last-entry time, and queue before buying a ticket. If you want daylight, sunset, and night views in one rotation, board around local sunset. After the roughly 30-minute ride, leave through the exit and continue to Ganjiang Citizen Park or Qiushui Square.
Weekend evening queues
Queues can exceed one hour on weekend and holiday evenings. At peak times, a cabin may wait until 6–8 passengers are seated, so your group may not have a cabin to itself. Check the queue and weather on arrival, then decide whether to ride; if the wait is too long, use the MixC or opposite-bank exterior route.
Get there
Metro and buses
From Exit 2 of Xuefu Avenue East Station (学府大道东站) on Line 2, cycle about 10 minutes to the Ferris wheel plaza. Buses 503, 504, and 817 stop at “Nanchang Star Amusement Park” (南昌之星游乐园), followed by a walk to the entrance. Navigate to “Star of Nanchang Ferris Wheel Plaza” or the wheel itself rather than only to Ganjiang Citizen Park, where the ticket entrance is harder to find.
Driving and parking
Drivers can use the south or north car park for Star of Nanchang. Spaces, charges, and night access follow the on-site arrangement. On holidays, check the car park status before deciding whether to ride or walk to MixC and Qiushui Square.
Know before you go
Security, shared cabins, and reflections
Security checks may apply at the entrance. Colored beverages and food may not be allowed into the cabin and may need to be stored or handled at the entrance. During busy periods, cabins may be shared; reflections, cleanliness, and weather can all affect the view and photos.
Thunderstorms, wind, and the fountain
Thunderstorms and strong winds can suspend the wheel. Check the day’s operating notice for suspension and refund arrangements. Qiushui Square’s fountain currently has regular sessions at 19:30–19:45 and 20:30–20:45. Rain or snow, wind at force 5 or above, and heavy fog can suspend the fountain, so confirm before setting out.
Food and leaving the plaza
Nanchang MixC across from the wheel has restaurants and rest stops such as Chunzihao and Youli Coffee. You can also add Ganjiang Citizen Park or Qiushui Square to the exterior walking route. After riding, confirm the last public transport or car-park access before deciding on dinner and night photography.
