The open district and its scope
Wanshougong Historical and Cultural District is on Zhongshan Road in Xihu District. Its public spaces are open all day, and entering the district itself is free with no reservation. It works well as one walking stop for historic buildings, old-city lanes, and Nanchang food; the pace depends on walking distances, shop hours, and crowds rather than on one closing time for a single attraction.
Two metro entrances
Wanshou Palace Station (万寿宫站), Exit 1 on Line 1, leads directly to the district core and is convenient for the main street and flower walls. Bayi Memorial Station (八一馆站), Exit 5 on Line 3, is better for starting at Daizi Street (带子街) and Jewelry Street (珠宝街) before walking toward Tiezhu Wanshou Palace (铁柱万寿宫) and Cuxiang Mosque (醋巷清真寺). Choose the station according to whether you want to eat first or start with the historic buildings.
How long to stay
For the main street, flower walls, and a stop near Kuncha (鲲茶), allow 1–1.5 hours. To include Daizi Street, Jewelry Street, Suojiao Well (锁蛟井), Cuxiang Mosque, and food, allow 2–3 hours. Evening performances and queues can extend the visit.

Tiezhu Wanshou Palace and Suojiao Well
Tiezhu Wanshou Palace is the district’s main historic site. Suojiao Well (锁蛟井, “Flood-Dragon-Locking Well”), also called Iron Pillar Well, contains a visible iron pillar and chain. Visitors interested in Daoist legends and local history can spend longer here; the temple space, well, and side lanes beyond the main street all add architectural details.
Cuxiang Mosque
Cuxiang Mosque dates from the Kangxi period of the Qing dynasty and is now an exhibition venue. It uses traditional Chinese architectural forms, with upturned eaves rather than the dome often associated with mosque architecture. It fits naturally into the same historic walk as Tiezhu Wanshou Palace (铁柱万寿宫).
Daizi Street, Jewelry Street, and evening music
Daizi Street and Jewelry Street are the better places to walk and snack, while the main street concentrates flower walls, shops, and Chinese-style decorations. Kuncha (鲲茶) sometimes has window-side performances with instruments such as erhu and pipa after 20:00, but the time and whether a performance takes place can change. Treat it as an optional same-day stop.

Build your day
The 1–1.5 hour main-street route
Enter from Exit 1 of Wanshou Palace Station, follow the main street, and pass the Nanchang-themed flower walls and shops before finishing near Kuncha. Daylight is better for walls, shopfronts, and building lines; at dusk, wait for the lights to come on. This short route can end near Kuncha without repeated detours into every lane.
The 2–3 hour history-and-food route
Start at Exit 5 of Bayi Memorial Station and walk through Daizi Street and Jewelry Street, using the food and shop hours to set the first stop. Continue to Tiezhu Wanshou Palace for Suojiao Well, then visit Cuxiang Mosque, and finish back on the main street or near Kuncha for photos and food. This order puts the concentrated food area first and the historic buildings and evening atmosphere later.
Staying for the evening music
If you want to hear the Kuncha performance, go to the shop first to see whether it is scheduled that evening, then decide whether to wait. Window seats are limited and the evening crowd may stand for some time. If there is no performance, use the time for snacks on Jewelry Street and the main-street night view instead.

Metro and walking
Both Wanshou Palace Station Exit 1 and Bayi Memorial Station Exit 5 lead into the district. Metro is more practical than driving for a slow walk through the old city. Navigate to “Wanshougong Historical and Cultural District,” Wanshou Palace Station, or Bayi Memorial Station, then continue on foot toward Daizi Street, Jewelry Street, Tiezhu Wanshou Palace, or another named stop.
Driving and old-city roads
The district has an underground car park, but Zhongshan Road and the surrounding lanes can be congested on weekends, holidays, and during dinner hours. Drivers should navigate to the car park and continue on foot; do not take a car into the lanes looking for a shop or stop temporarily on the roadside.

The two Wanshougong locations
This page refers to the historic district in central Nanchang, whose main religious building is Tiezhu Wanshou Palace. Xishan Wanshougong (西山万寿宫) is a different Daoist site outside the city center, with different transport and visit purposes. Check the full destination name before leaving.
Crowds, prices, and side lanes
The main street becomes busier on weekend and holiday evenings, and popular snacks or chain shops vary in queue time, price, and experience. Jewelry Street and nearby lanes have options such as Yang Auntie Zongzi, Xiao Deng Stinky Tofu, Old Nanchang Hugeng Soup, and Hongge Shaobing; shop hours and queues depend on the day.
Photography and keeping the lanes clear
Soft daylight works well for buildings and portraits, while the lit main street is better for evening atmosphere. The red wall beside Kuncha and other themed flower walls are spread around the district. Keep the lanes by the mosque and temple clear, and do not occupy a queue area for a long time; food, performances, and public-space access follow separate conditions.
