Plan at a glance
A living village and its entrance
Longtan Ancient Town is in Longtan Village, Xiling Township, Pingnan County, Ningde, Fujian. Longtan Village Culture Square is a commonly used entrance. The village is free to enter and does not require a reservation. Village roads, the creek, old houses, a reading room, and exhibition spaces are woven into a residential area; this is not a museum with one closing procedure.
The village can be walked through all day, but the reading room, cafés, and other creative shops usually operate in daylight, with a common reference window of 9:00–17:00. Individual businesses may change their hours. Allow about 2 hours for a short visit; staying one night or combining nearby villages needs about 1.5–3 days.
Time needed and who it suits
This suits visitors interested in old houses, streams, village walking, photography, and quiet accommodation. Village roads are narrow, and moss beside the creek is slippery. With older adults, use a short route around the covered bridge, creek-side flagstone paths, and public spaces rather than completing the full back-hill route.
Longtan's main value is the village itself and its slow pace. Do not treat one reading room, café, stage performance, or seasonal scene as a guaranteed activity after arrival.

Covered bridge, creek-side houses, and creative spaces
The Huicun Covered Bridge is a familiar landmark. Along Longtan Creek, there are flagstone paths, old houses, and places to pause beside the water. Spaces such as Suixi Reading Room and 47 Tree Art Gallery occupy renovated old buildings, but whether they are open, allow entry, or serve food depends on the day.
The Chen Clan Ancestral Hall and old opera stage offer places to observe the village's historic spaces, but performances and fixed guided explanations are not guaranteed every day. Respect residential boundaries and do not enter private rooms or closed courtyards.
Who it suits
Longtan suits slow travel, rural photography, summer stays, and visitors willing to sleep in an old village. With older adults, keep the route around the Culture Square, covered bridge, creek-side flagstones, and public rest areas, reducing time on mountain roads and slippery surfaces.
If you expect a large commercial street, extensive dining, or stable nightlife, this may not be the right stop. Supplies and food choices are limited, so arrange food, accommodation, and return transport in advance.
Build your day
A 2-hour village short route
Enter from the Culture Square, first walk across the Huicun Covered Bridge, then follow the flagstone path along Longtan Creek. Depending on what is open, stop at the reading room or art gallery, and finish near the Chen Clan Ancestral Hall and old opera stage. If the shops are closed, you can still complete the public village roads and creek-side route; do not switch into residential courtyards.
The creek side can be slippery after rain, so wear shoes with good grip even on the short route. Include the walk from the parking area to the village entrance, as well as the time to retrieve the car and walk uphill; do not plan only around the time inside a shop.
A 1.5-day overnight plan
Spend the first day walking around Longtan Village, then visit Siping Village, Qiantou Village, or another Pingnan village on the second day. Confirm whether a room is available, what the room provides, and whether shops will be open before leaving. Do not assume every old house can be used as a homestay at short notice.
The mountain area can be cold and damp in winter, so confirm heating and hot-water conditions separately. Rooms may be scarce on weekends, holidays, and during seasonal activities, and the return vehicle should also be arranged in advance.
A two- to three-day Pingnan combination
With more time, split Longtan, Qiantou Village, Siping Village, Xiadi Village, Baishuiyang, and Yuanyang Creek across two or three days. Villages require driving or arranged transfers, while Baishuiyang and Yuanyang Creek have their own tickets, hours, and weather restrictions. This is not one continuous walking route.
If roads, weather, or accommodation conditions are unsuitable, reduce the number of linked villages rather than rushing. Longtan can be an overnight base, but it does not guarantee a fixed bus or an immediately available taxi to other attractions.
Get there
Driving and parking
Navigate to “Longtan Village Culture Square.” There are usually free parking spaces at the village entrance, but in peak periods you may need to use a second parking lot and walk uphill. The access road has many bends and narrow sections; slow down and do not stop temporarily in a tight passage.
After arriving, confirm the nearby parking area, the second lot, and your accommodation location before walking. Do not block private roadside lanes, resident entrances, fire access, or farm roads.
High-speed rail, shared rides, and public transport
From Pingnan Station, a shared ride to Longtan Village commonly costs about CNY 50 per person and takes about 40 minutes. You can also confirm a pick-up with your accommodation. There are records of a bus from Pingnan Bus Station to Longtan, but it may run only once a day, with a reference departure around 14:30, so it is not practical to depend on it for a same-day return.
Non-driving visitors should confirm the return vehicle and accommodation transfer before leaving. Do not assume that a bus available on the way in will also run back at night. Mobile signal and ride-hailing can be unstable in the mountains, so cache the map in advance.
Know before you go
Village boundaries and shop hours
Longtan is an inhabited village. Residents may be active around old houses, the ancestral hall, creek paths, and the reading room. Do not enter private rooms, courtyards, or unopened floors, and ask before photographing residents.
The reading room, cafés, art gallery, and old stage may or may not be open; use the on-site status for the day. The village being walkable all day does not mean every indoor space operates all day, and it does not guarantee a Siping opera or another performance every day.
Surfaces, weather, and supplies
Mountain paths, flagstones, and moss beside the creek can be slippery after rain. Wear flat shoes with good grip and bring insect protection. Winter can be cold and damp in the mountains, while accommodation demand is higher in autumn and on weekends; confirm heating, hot water, and check-in time in advance.
There is no large commercial street in the village. Prepare water, snacks, and medicine ahead of time. Food choices are limited. In heavy rain, pooled water, or poor night lighting, return to your accommodation early instead of taking a remote mountain path for photos.
