A grassland culture area in Ejin Horo Banner
Subohan Grassland is in western Ejin Horo Banner, at the foot of Daoludai Mountain. The scenic area focuses on nomadic grassland culture, folk traditions and outdoor activities. Commonly listed stops include Huimeng Haote, the Nomadic Tribe, Subohan Post Station and Adong Valley. It is a different scenic area from Ordos Grassland Tourist Area in Hanggin Banner; their routes, performances and tickets are not interchangeable.
Visit time depends on the season and internal transport
The area is large, so choose what to see and allow time to move between stops based on which areas are open and what transfers are available that day. The grassland scenery is generally at its best from June to September. From October onward, temperatures drop and both the grass color and available activities may change; summer photos and activities may not reflect autumn or winter conditions.

Choose your visit
Pick a grassland experience by themed area
Theme areas include the Seven Banners Alliance, the Nomadic Era, White Pagoda rituals and Naadam entertainment. If you have time, start by learning about Huimeng Haote and the Nomadic Tribe, then choose the post station, Adong Valley or another activity area based on what is open. Check the map and transfer information after entering, then confirm the stop you need.
Grassland transport depends on your ticket product
The grassland bus, lele cart (勒勒车), a traditional Mongolian wooden cart, and walking routes cover different areas; ticket products may have different conditions. When buying, check whether round-trip transport is included, which sections you can ride, where to transfer and when the last service leaves. Until confirmed, do not assume that “scenic-area transport” means every vehicle and area is free.
Plan around “The Ordos Wedding” only if it is listed that day
“The Ordos Wedding” is a seasonal performance option at Subohan Grassland. Dates and entry arrangements may change. Before traveling, check the scenic area’s same-day notice for whether it is showing, where to enter and what the ticket includes. Also check transport back to the entrance after the performance.
For a separate history and ritual-focused visit in Ejin Horo Banner, see Genghis Khan Mausoleum Scenic Area.
Build your day
Half-day visit | Choose one main area first
If you have only half a day, choose one main area—Huimeng Haote, the Nomadic Tribe or Adong Valley—and use the scenic-area transport that is open. Leave time for exhibits, rest and the return trip. Stops can be far apart, so walking the entire route may not be practical. If a performance is scheduled, plan around the announced time before deciding whether to shorten other activities.
Longer route | Link several areas
For a half-day or longer, consider this route: Huimeng Haote → grassland bus → Nomadic Tribe → lele cart or an authorized horseback-riding activity → Subohan Post Station or Adong Valley → return to the entrance. Confirm the route and transfers before adding horseback riding, archery or a performance. The more activities you include, the more important it is to check that they are operating and when the last return vehicle leaves.
On a performance day, allow time to arrive and leave
If the scenic area’s same-day notice confirms “The Ordos Wedding,” ask about the performance location, arrival time, whether it is included in your ticket and the last transfer back to the entrance afterward. Do not assume the area will stay open after sunset or that transport will be available.
Get there
Navigate to the visitor center
Set “Subohan Grassland Visitor Center” or the scenic area’s official name as your destination. Driving time depends on where you start and road conditions. Check on-site signs for parking locations and fees.
Confirm public transport in both directions
The Ordos Municipal Transport Bureau’s 2024 route list includes Route 510A, running from the west side of Yiqi Bus Station via the industrial park to Subohan Tourist Area. The route information is older, so confirm operating dates, stops and service times before traveling. If you are not driving and plan an evening activity, also verify how to get back after it ends.
Know before you go
Check each ticket type and annual pass against its own list of benefits
The 2026 Ordos Tourist All-in-One Annual Pass is a city-level annual pass, separate from the Inner Mongolia Culture and Tourism Pass. Issue information lists it at RMB 100. The pass takes effect at midnight on the day after purchase. Real-name registration and facial recognition are required. The Yunyou Ordos platform’s benefits description has listed Subohan’s basic admission, scenic-area zones, living museum, grassland transport, lele cart and “The Ordos Wedding.” Check whether the pass is currently available and what it covers against your own order and the scenic area’s same-day notice. It has not been confirmed whether a passport can be used for real-name registration and facial recognition; contact the platform before buying if you use a passport.
Confirm operating days, shows and activity prices
Opening hours, rest days and activity prices may change by season. Before traveling, ask the scenic area whether it is open that day, when the last transport leaves and how much each activity costs. Check the benefits of individual tickets, sightseeing tickets, packages and annual passes separately; do not assume they can be combined.
Prepare for grassland walks and rides
The grassland has strong sun, wind and large temperature changes between day and night. Bring sun protection, water and windproof warm clothing. Ride horses only at authorized scenic-area operators and follow their rules. Ask about age and health restrictions, route, duration, price and safety measures; do not leave the managed route or arrange an informal ride with a horse owner.
