Lighthouse location and access
Sancong Cliff Lighthouse is at Banchao Reef in the southeast of Nan'ao Island; use the lighthouse viewpoint or bus stop as your navigation point. It is free, needs no reservation and is open all day; 15:00–17:00 gives softer light, while sunrise is possible in the morning, but holiday roads and parking are more congested.
How much time to allow
Allow around 30 minutes for the red-and-white double towers from the car park and authorised viewpoint, or more than two hours when combining it with Changshanwei, Qian'ao Bay and Qing'ao Bay. The essential experience is the legal viewpoint and coastal line, not climbing walls, dirt side paths or construction areas.

30 minutes: car park and viewpoint
Arrive at the Sancong Cliff Lighthouse bus stop or car park, use the open view for the double towers and coastline, then spend time only at the accessible viewpoint. Spaces are limited, so leave after photography and do not search for a closer roadside angle.
Around 2 hours: lighthouse circuit
Start at Changshanwei Lighthouse and Qian'ao Bay Lighthouse, reach Sancong Cliff Lighthouse in the afternoon, then continue to Qing'ao Bay for evening. This order follows the eastern driving direction, reduces doubling back and preserves sunset time.
Bus slow-travel route
Take bus 161 onto the island and change to route 602 for Sancong Cliff Lighthouse, then use route 601 back towards the visitor centre according to the timetable. Holiday diversions are possible, so confirm the terminal and return route with the driver rather than relying only on the map order.
Build your day
Afternoon for twin towers and sea views
The large and small red-and-white striped towers stand by the cliff, and the viewpoint looks towards Bird Island, the Nanpeng Islands and waves striking the rocks; visibility and colour differ greatly between sun and cloud. Parts of the viewing area may be under construction or closed, so follow barriers and on-site directions when you arrive.
Keep the evening for Qing'ao Bay
After the lighthouse, continue along the east route to Qing'ao Bay or the Natural Gate as the day’s coastal finish. If Changshanwei or Qian'ao Bay has already taken longer than planned, reduce the number of stops instead of rushing mountain or crowded island roads after dark.

Driving and parking
Drive over Nan'ao Bridge and follow signs to Sancong Cliff Lighthouse; roadside parking is listed at around CNY 10 per visit, with limited spaces on holidays. E-bikes are flexible around the island but the lighthouse approach has slopes and drains battery quickly, so check charge and brakes first.
Bus and walk from the stop
Route 602 reaches Sancong Cliff Lighthouse stop, followed by a walk to the viewpoint; return buses may be affected by traffic controls. Include waits in your route and do not leave the coast just before the last service or rely on an unconfirmed extra bus.
Know before you go
Safety and construction boundaries
Do not climb walls, approach the cliff or use dirt tracks; after rain, rocks, branches and mud are more hazardous. Even if the official viewpoint is being built or repaired, use only safe open areas; bring sun protection, sunglasses, a windproof layer and secure your hat in strong wind.
Crowds and photography pace
Weekday afternoons are generally easier for parking and a slower visit, while holidays are busiest from 09:00–16:00. Parking charges, bus diversions and temporary closures can change the day, so confirm the return before extending your stop for telephoto or portrait photographs.
