The memorial hall is at 13 Renmin South Road, Haicheng Town, Haifeng County. The Red Palace was originally a Ming-era academy, with Red Square beside it. Allow half a day to understand the Hailufeng peasant movement, see the red-walled historic buildings, and connect Peng Pai Former Residence, Haifeng Museum, and the old town streets.
Entry is free, but plan for ID registration and the opening day
Individual entry is free with real-name registration using your passport or identification; an advance booking QR code can reduce waiting, while groups of 20 or more need a group booking. Opening hours are 8:30 am–5:30 pm, with last entry at 5 pm. The site is closed on Mondays except public holidays.

For limited time, use the 1.5-hour core route
Start at the Red Square gate, see the Peng Pai martyr statue and Red Square, then visit the Hailufeng Peasant Movement history exhibition in Wudai Ancestral Hall. This route is focused and works well as a morning or afternoon stop after reaching Haifeng County.
First-time visitors can use around three hours for a half-day history route
Visit the Red Palace’s Lingxing Gate, Pan Pool, and Dacheng Hall, then continue to the Red Square rostrum and the meeting-of-forces sculpture. Afterwards, walk or take a short ride to Peng Pai Former Residence and Haifeng Museum. For a slower county-town walk, add the exterior of Chen Jiongming’s Former Governor’s Office, the Zhuyu mural wall, and Nanhu Market.

See the Red Palace buildings and exhibitions first
The Red Palace retains academy buildings including Lingxing Gate, Pan Pool, and Dacheng Hall, as well as historic slogans and revolutionary objects. In 1927, it witnessed the establishment of China’s first Soviet government. Follow the central building axis first, then use the exhibition in Wudai Ancestral Hall to understand the peasant movement.
Continue to Red Square, then join the county-town walking route
The “Red Square” inscription above the gate, the speaking platform, and the Peng Pai martyr statue are the main stops in the square. Afterwards, walk to Peng Pai Former Residence, about 1 km away, or visit the neighbouring Haifeng Museum for local history. For dinner, return to the old streets for Haifeng rice cakes, thin pancakes, or beef-patty soup.

Drive to the county-town centre, but leave time for parking
Navigate to “Red Palace and Red Square Former Site Memorial Hall.” Parking is available nearby but fills in busy periods; the library car park, marked street spaces, and parking opposite McDonald’s are useful alternatives.
From Shanwei Station, take Bus 129 or a direct taxi
Take Bus 129 from Shanwei Station to Sanjiao Stop, then walk about five minutes. A direct taxi takes about 40 minutes. Once in Haifeng County town, the main sights are close together and can be linked by short taxi rides or shared e-bikes.
Know before you go
Some historic buildings and the Red Square gate are under maintenance
Lingxing Gate, Dacheng Gate, Dacheng Hall, and other Ming-era buildings, as well as the Red Square gate, are being repaired and upgraded, with reopening expected around October 2026. Red Square Park, Wudai Ancestral Hall, and the People’s Hospital site can still be visited, so combine this stop with the former residence and museum rather than depending on one building alone.
Choose the right photo time and observe memorial-hall etiquette
After 9 am is generally calmer, while 2–4 pm is useful for the red walls and tree shadows. The square has little shade, so bring sun protection. Keep quiet indoors, do not touch objects, and do not bring drinks into the galleries; plain-coloured or vintage clothing works well against the red-and-yellow buildings.
