Tianwangzhai Scenic Area is in Wangdian Village, within the Tongbai Mountain Taibaiding Scenic Area (桐柏山太白顶风景名胜区), Wanhe Town, Suixian County, Suizhou. Search for “Tianwangzhai Scenic Area” for navigation. The visit combines mountain-fort ruins, local revolutionary history, and a stream-and-valley climb, with old walls, waterfalls, and summit views along the way.
The attraction is far from central Suizhou and has no direct public transport, so driving to the car park is the practical option. A sightseeing cart reaches the halfway point, but the rest of the ascent is on foot. Allow about 2–3 hours for the short route or 3–5 hours for the full stream route.
Tickets and opening hours
The adult ticket is CNY 30. Students over 1.2 m and seniors aged 60–69 can buy a concession ticket of about CNY 20; visitors aged 70 and above are eligible for a free-entry policy. Other child categories should be checked against the same-day ticket notice and document requirements. The sightseeing cart costs CNY 15 per person.
In peak season, the attraction runs from 08:00 to 17:30, with ticket sales stopping at 15:30. In the low season, it runs from 08:30 to 17:00, with ticket sales stopping at 15:00. Operating dates and reservation requirements follow the same-day notice. The car park is currently free.

The fort and revolutionary history
The main sights are the old fort walls, gate tower, Five-Pointed Star Square, and summit viewpoints. The Red Army sculpture group and former barracks add local revolutionary-history context, making it possible to combine a mountain walk with a visit focused on the area's past.
Streams, waterfalls, and photography
The full climbing path follows streams and waterfalls uphill, while the gorge boardwalk is suited to the descent. The gate tower is the signature photo position: frame the green pines and blue sky through the opening in the summit stone wall. Spring azaleas and the cooler air of autumn can also make good photography conditions.
Build your day
2–3 hours: halfway-point short route
Take the sightseeing cart from the car park to the halfway point, then walk for about 30 minutes to the summit. Visit the old fort walls, Five-Pointed Star Square, and gate tower in sequence, then return by the same route or take the cart downhill if it is operating that day.
This route concentrates the fort and revolutionary-history sights around the summit and suits visitors with limited time or those who do not want the full stream route. The cart only covers the car park-to-halfway section; the summit sights are reached on foot.
3–5 hours: full stream route
Start from the car park and follow the climbing trail uphill past streams and waterfalls to the summit. After visiting the old fort walls, gate tower, Five-Pointed Star Square, and revolutionary-history remains, descend via the gorge boardwalk. This creates a route without retracing the uphill trail and involves more continuous steps.
Supplies are limited on the mountain, so prepare water and snacks before setting out. The downhill section puts more pressure on the knees, and the return pace should follow your actual walking condition.

Driving and parking
Tianwangzhai is some distance from central Suizhou. Search for “Tianwangzhai Scenic Area” and drive to the attraction; the car park is currently free. After parking, continue to the visitor centre or sightseeing-cart boarding point to begin the route.
Arrival and trail guidance
There is currently no direct public transport to Tianwangzhai. Visitors without a car need to arrange a chartered car or taxi transfer. At the visitor centre, photograph the trail map for reference; if the mountain maps and signs are unclear, use the on-site signs to confirm the stream-uphill and gorge-downhill directions.
Know before you go
Steps, supplies, and children
The trails are mainly steps, and the descent is harder on the knees. Wear proper hiking shoes for the full route. Mountain supplies are limited, so prepare water and high-energy snacks below; food choices on the mountain are also limited.
Weekdays are usually quieter, while weekends and holidays are better approached early. Some summit railings have wide gaps, so keep children close around the walls, gate tower, and viewpoints, and do not let them approach unprotected edges.

After the visit, you can return to Suizhou for Guaizi Fan (拐子饭) or beef dishes at Lishan. A simple local meal may cost around CNY 22 per person, although current prices vary. Dahong Mountain is a separate attraction; reaching it requires a new calculation of driving time, tickets, and walking, and there is no direct in-mountain connection from Tianwangzhai.
