Location and visit style

Yan Emperor Cultural Tourism Area is in Lishan Town, Suixian County. It is a cultural attraction centred on Yandi Shennong heritage, ancestor-worship spaces, and commemorative architecture. A large share of the scenery is designed and monumental, so it suits visitors interested in Yandi culture, farming history, and the origins of Chinese civilization.

The attraction has several entrances, but first-time visitors may want to start at the South Gate. The main sights follow a central axis: a short visit takes about 1.5 hours, while adding Shennong Dong (神农洞, Shennong Cave), Wenhua Diaosu Bi (文化雕塑壁, Cultural Sculpture Wall), Lieshan Hu (烈山湖, Lieshan Lake), and possible cultural performances calls for about 3–4 hours.

Tickets and opening hours

The standard ticket is CNY 70 per person, and the attraction usually opens at 08:00. Daytime ticketing, night-tour periods, ticket-sale cut-off, last entry, and closing time vary by date. If you plan the longer route, check the same-day programme and entry arrangements before setting out.

Main sights along the central axis

Jiugong Qiao (九拱桥, Jiugong Bridge), Huaxia Shizu Men (华夏始祖门, Gate of the Huaxia Ancestor), and Shenghuo Tai (圣火台, Sacred Fire Platform) connect Yezu Guangchang (谒祖广场, Ancestor-Worship Plaza) with Shennong Dadian (神农大殿, Shennong Grand Hall), forming the attraction's most concentrated commemorative area. The plaza is useful for seeing the scale of the architecture and ceremony space, while the grand hall is the main stop for the Yandi Shennong theme.

The Yandi Shennong Xiang (炎帝神农像, Yandi Shennong Statue) is 95 chi high and holds grain seeds and lingzhi. It is the attraction's most prominent landmark, and together with Shennong Dadian and Yezu Guangchang it forms the core of a first visit.

Cultural programmes and photo spots

The attraction may stage Xunji Yandi Shennong (《寻迹炎帝神农》, “Following the Footsteps of Yandi Shennong”), Yanhuang Lianmeng (《炎黄联盟》, “Alliance of Yandi and Huangdi”), and other Yandi-themed immersive or situational performances. Programme names and times are listed on the same-day schedule.

The area in front of the Yandi Shennong Statue works well for portraits with a landmark. From Jiugong Qiao, you can frame the bridge, lake, and distant Shennong Dadian together; Yezu Guangchang is better for architectural views and portraits. History and culture enthusiasts, visitors on an ancestor-seeking trip, and families introducing traditional culture to children can all find a suitable focus here.

Build your day

About 1.5 hours: central-axis short route

Enter through the South Gate and follow Jiugong Qiao, Huaxia Shizu Men, Shenghuo Tai, Yezu Guangchang, Shennong Dadian, and the Yandi Shennong Statue in that order. The route is mainly on foot and focuses on the architecture, plazas, and landmarks along the axis; return to the South Gate by the same route.

This route suits visitors with limited time who want the main cultural theme. The grounds are large enough that even the short route takes about 1.5 hours. If a sightseeing cart is running that day, ask on site about the roughly CNY 10 fare and the sections it serves.

About 3–4 hours: highlights route

Complete the central axis from the South Gate to the Yandi Shennong Statue, then add Shennong Dong, Wenhua Diaosu Bi, and Lieshan Hu. Keep the central-axis order for the first section, then connect the three extension stops for a visit that combines commemorative architecture with the attraction's wider landscape.

Cultural performances can be fitted into the longer visit, but they are not a fixed part of the route. Return to the entrance using the paths open that day. A full walk usually takes 2–3 hours; whether to use a sightseeing cart and where to rest depends on the day's services and your own pace.

Get there

Driving and parking

For driving, search for “Yan Emperor Cultural Tourism Area” or “Yandi Shennong Hometown Scenic Area.” Parking is available near the visitor centre; fees and any waivers follow the same-day notice on site. After parking, continue to the South Gate to begin the central-axis route.

The South Gate is the practical starting point for the central-axis sequence. The bus stop at the North Gate is a different arrival point, so follow the signs after getting off. Most movement inside is on foot; the sightseeing cart is only an optional aid for visitors who want to reduce walking.

Bus and high-speed rail arrival

From downtown Suizhou, take Bus 3 and get off at the “Yandi Scenic Area North Gate” stop. The bus arrives at the North Gate, while the suggested short route starts at the South Gate; follow the on-site directions to confirm the entrance connection.

From Suizhou South Railway Station, a taxi ride to the attraction takes about 20 minutes. Suizhou has no metro, so visitors without a car should plan around a taxi or bus arrival at the appropriate entrance.

Know before you go

Tickets and same-day programmes

The official ticket channels are the “Yandi Hometown” WeChat account and the official Douyin account “Yandi Hometown Scenic Area.” Use these channels where possible, as tickets from other channels may not scan successfully. The consultation phone number is 0722-3339333.

On the first and fifteenth day of the lunar month, a free-entry promotion is sometimes offered before 08:30; whether it applies depends on the scenic area's notice that day. Ancestor-worship ceremonies, aerial performances, immersive or situational shows, and sightseeing carts may change with the date and may not be available on every visit.

Walking, spending, and food

A full walk around the attraction usually takes 2–3 hours, with extra time if you add the extended stops. Wear shoes suited to walking and carry water; decide whether to visit Shennong Dong, Wenhua Diaosu Bi, and Lieshan Hu according to your pace that day. Some experiences cost extra, including the Shengzhong Cifu (圣钟赐福, “Sacred Bell Blessing”) activity at about CNY 3 per strike.

Different incense-offering points may have different rules. Before paying, ask where the offering applies and what can be redeemed. Before or after the visit, you can try Suizhou dishes such as Guaizi Fan (拐子饭), Sanxian Doupi (三鲜豆皮), Shihua Fen (石花粉), or Anju Doupi (安居豆皮); Suizhou Museum, Tomb of Marquis Yi of Zeng, and Dahong Mountain are separate attractions with separate routes and operating arrangements.
