The traditional vinegar workshop
The workshop presents the traditional stages of steaming, fermentation, smoking, leaching and ageing in a real production setting. Rows of large vinegar jars and the strong vinegar aroma are the most immediate features. Visitors curious about traditional techniques can linger in the workshop; those sensitive to smells may want to prepare a mask.
Guiding and tasting vinegars of different ages
The free guided tour connects the history, ingredients and production steps of Shanxi vinegar, making it a good introduction for first-time visitors. On the second floor, compare 5-year, 8-year and longer-aged vinegar. Buying anything after the tasting is entirely optional.

Traditional-craft enthusiasts, families looking for an educational stop and visitors who want an hour-long introduction to Shanxi food culture can all enjoy the visit. Walking distances are short and the physical demand is low. If the vinegar aroma is uncomfortable, shorten the workshop section.

The 40–60-minute short route
Register on site and follow the free guided tour through introductory film → cultural exhibition → production workshop → second-floor aged-vinegar tasting. Leave through the exit after the tasting. Morning visits are often convenient for completing the guided tour, workshop and tasting in one sequence; if a group has not formed, ask when the next session will start before planning the surrounding route.
The 1.5–2-hour extended route
After the standard route, ask whether the in-house DIY area is operating. If an activity is available that day, decide whether to pay for making aged-vinegar soap or a vinegar drink. Then rest at the “Meiheju” courtyard near the exit before browsing the shop. DIY activities, materials, fees and fermentation conditions may change, and shopping is completely optional.
Pairing it with Twin Pagoda Temple
Donghu Vinegar Garden is about 4 km from Yongzuo Temple, also known as Twin Pagoda Temple, roughly a 10-minute drive. It can be the next stop. The two attractions have separate entrances and opening arrangements, so confirm the vinegar garden's finishing time and whether Twin Pagoda Temple is receiving visitors that day.

Bus and ride-hailing
Take bus 3, 9, 809 or 861 to the “Yingchun Street” stop, then walk to the garden. For ride-hailing, set “Donghu Vinegar Garden” as the destination; the shared entrance is easy to identify. If arriving late, use the same destination in navigation and check the entrance registration deadline.
Driving and parking
Drivers can navigate to “Donghu Vinegar Garden”; parking inside the grounds is free. Spaces, vehicle routes and temporary construction can change. After parking, register at the shared entrance, and treat parking and shopping as separate parts of the visit.
Know before you go
Aroma and queues
The vinegar aroma becomes noticeably stronger in the workshop. Visitors sensitive to smells can bring a mask and shorten the stop. The garden is small, and queues mainly depend on the guide group and the number of people in the tasting area that day. Morning is often convenient for seeing the workshop, but no visit is guaranteed to have the same fermentation conditions or guide session.
Shopping and supplies
The shop sells aged vinegars from different years and vinegar-based snacks. Buying is optional, and you can ask whether a free commemorative stamp is available. Around Madaopo Street, possible simple meals include the Yuan Dongzhan Pork Knuckle shop and Anhui beef-noodle dishes; flavour and queues follow the day. Allow separate travel time if you continue to Twin Pagoda Temple.
