The main entrance and two uphill paths
Mengshan Buddha Scenic Area is in Luocheng Sidi Village, Jinyuan District, Taiyuan. After entering through the main entrance, choose between the Pilgrimage Trail and the Jingxin Zen Path. The sightseeing shuttle goes only to the mid-mountain area; after getting off, you still need to walk about 30–40 minutes to the foot of the Buddha. The shuttle ticket covers only the vehicle section.
Tickets cost CNY 50 per person in peak season, from March to October, and CNY 30 in the off-season, roughly November through February. No reservation is required. Buy online or purchase at the visitor centre with an ID. Peak-season hours are 8:30–18:30 and off-season hours are 8:30–17:30. Closing time and shuttle frequency may change with the season and visitor numbers, so check the scenic area's notice on the day.
Plan daytime and evening visits separately
Allow 2–2.5 hours for the Buddha and the main stops. Allow 3–4 hours to walk up to the Buddha and descend via the Jingxin Zen Path. Evening-visit dates, any extension to 21:30 and the Buddha-lighting ceremony advertised for 20:38 may all change. Check the latest notice on the day; even when evening visits are operating, do not treat the lighting or a performance as a daily fixed programme.

The Buddha, Kaihua Temple and Lianli Pagoda (连理塔)
Buddha Square is the centre of the route, and the viewing platform below the Buddha is the best place for a frontal upward view. The Kaihua Temple ruins and Lianli Pagoda (连理塔) are arranged along the Pilgrimage Trail and work well as stops on the climb. Mengshan Xiaoyue is listed among the Eight Scenic Views of Ancient Jinyang and is a useful theme for observing the terrain from the path and higher viewpoints.
The stream section of the Jingxin Zen Path
From Buddha Square, descend via the Jingxin Zen Path. The route includes streams, bamboo groves and misting installations, and is best taken slowly during the day. Mist operation, slipperiness and the section open to visitors can change. Stay on the formal path for photographs, and at night do not enter remote or unlit sections in search of the mist.
Who will enjoy it
This is a good choice for visitors interested in Buddhist heritage, a mountain walk, or a half-day combination of a climb with views and a water-lined descent. With children or older adults, include the 30–40-minute walk from the mid-mountain shuttle stop to the Buddha's feet. Commercial services and supplies are limited, so visitors with less stamina can take the short route and return the way they came.

The 2–2.5-hour short route
Buy a ticket at the main entrance, take the sightseeing shuttle and get off at the mid-mountain stop. The one-way reference fare is CNY 6. Walk about 30–40 minutes to the foot of the Buddha, spend time at the viewing platform and main stops, then return to the mid-mountain area by the same route and take a shuttle back to the entrance according to the day's service. The shuttle covers only the mid-mountain section, not the mountain-path walk.
The 3–4-hour complete route
Take the shuttle from the main entrance to the mid-mountain area, then walk uphill on the Pilgrimage Trail, passing the Iron Buddha Hall and Lianli Pagoda (连理塔) before reaching Buddha Square. After visiting, descend through the “Mengshan Xiaoyue” direction and turn onto the Jingxin Zen Path through the stream, bamboo and mist sections. Finish at the main entrance or scenic-area exit; whether the whole descent is open depends on the day's arrangement.
How to arrange an evening visit
If an evening visit is operating that day, enter before 20:00 and treat the Buddha-lighting ceremony as a possible time marker rather than a guaranteed show. Descend along the open scenic-area route and arrange a ride-hailing car in advance. Cars can be difficult to find outside the scenic area, so do not wait until after closing to look for a return vehicle.

Bus and taxi
Bus 58 or 329 can take you to “Mengshan Buddha Scenic Area”, although the journey is relatively long. A ride-hailing car from Liuxiang, Taiyuan Railway Station or another central location takes about 30–40 minutes and costs roughly CNY 30–45, depending on traffic and time of day. Set the destination as the scenic area's main entrance or visitor centre.
Driving and parking
Drivers can navigate to “Mengshan Scenic Area Parking Lot”. Parking is about CNY 10 per visit. After parking, you still need to enter through the main gate and follow the day's ticket, shuttle and walking arrangements. The lot is at the start of the Buddha route, not at the Buddha's feet.

Mountain paths and weather
The main path from the mid-mountain area to the Buddha climbs uphill, and the Jingxin Zen Path on the way down includes damp sections. Wear shoes with good grip. During prolonged rain, high temperatures or insufficient night lighting, shorten the route or change the date. Whether the shuttle, evening visit and misting installations operate follows the day's notice.
Water and meals
Commercial services inside the scenic area are limited, so bring drinking water and a small snack. Yunqian Courtyard opposite the parking lot costs about CNY 47 per person and is a possible meal after the visit; its opening and dishes follow the day's arrangement. Jinci, Taiyuan Ancient County Town and Taiyuan Botanical Garden can be paired on the same day if useful, but travel between attractions requires a separate ride.
