Ruins and museum area
Dagu Fort Ruins Museum is at No. 1 Dongpaotai Road in Binhai New Area, near the mouth of the Haihe. The visit has two parts: the museum displays and the outdoor fort ruins. Allow about 1–2 hours for the full route. It suits visitors interested in modern coastal-defence history, war history, and historic structures; the focus is on displays and remains.
Tickets and opening
An adult ticket is CNY25, students pay half price, and children enter free. Reservations are not usually required; buy on site. It generally opens Tuesday to Sunday around 9:00–16:30, with last entry at 16:00, and is closed on Mondays; statutory holidays may bring changes. Check the day’s notice for fares, reservation arrangements, and temporary closures. This museum’s ticketing is separate from the large attractions nearby.

Museum displays
Start inside the museum with objects, historical materials, and images about Dagu’s coastal defence, wars, and the preservation of the ruins. This order helps visitors understand the position and historical significance of the forts before going outside. The building structure, spiral route, and exhibition design can be observed, but photography follows the museum’s restrictions and circulation route.
Wei and Hai forts and the river mouth
Wei Fort and Hai Fort offer different views of the remains and coast. Around Hai Fort, you can look toward the mouth of the Haihe and the sea. Distinguish the original cannon structures, walls, surviving elements, and reconstructed sections according to the on-site explanation. The war ruins are not photo props.
Build your day
A 1–2 hour full route
Enter through the main western entrance and visit the museum first for the historical background and displays. From the exit side, follow the open path to Wei Fort, then continue to Hai Fort and the viewing platform. Return to the entrance or parking area according to the signs. The indoor and outdoor sections are quite different; shorten the outdoor part in high heat, strong wind, or on slippery surfaces.
Planning the return
The site is remote, and finding an immediate taxi after the outdoor section may be difficult. Drivers should follow the route back to their parking area. Visitors without a car should arrange a return ride or confirm the ride-hailing pickup point when they arrive. Do not add the National Maritime Museum or another large attraction at the last minute before closing; Binhai sites have separate entrances and travel times.
Get there
Light rail and taxi
From central Tianjin, take Jinbin Light Rail Line 9 to Shimin Square Station or Tanggu Station, then take a taxi to No. 1 Dongpaotai Road. This is a practical public-transport option. A previously available tourist shuttle may no longer operate, so do not rely on an unconfirmed bus. Check the current route and return time before departure.
Driving and parking
Navigate to Dagu Fort Ruins Museum. There is free parking outside; use on-site signs for the parking area and walking entrance. Other viewpoints at the Haihe mouth, restaurants, and port entrances are not the museum entrance.
Know before you go
Ruin safety and historical respect
Do not touch or climb cannons, walls, or closed ruins, cross barriers, or seek elevated photographs from the top of a fort or a seaside edge. This site involves war, coastal defence, and loss of life. Photography can record the structures and environment, but avoid joking poses, simulated firing, or treating historic remains as a playground.
Weather and food
Coastal wind, sun, and slippery ground can affect the outdoor walk. Wear shoes with good grip and bring water. Nearby food options are scattered, so confirm opening before the return. The Dagu Fort Ruins Museum and the National Maritime Museum are nearby only in terms of vehicle planning; they do not share tickets, opening hours, or a unified shuttle.
Visit order
Place the indoor museum in the hotter or windier part of the visit, complete the background displays, and then see the outdoor forts. If the outdoor route is shortened that day, the main historical exhibition can still be completed; do not wait inside a closed area.
Return vehicle
Visitors without a car should confirm the ride-hailing pickup point and phone signal before entering. The viewing platform is not a public night-walk area after closing.
