Free streets and paid courtyards
Yangliuqing Ancient Town is in Yangliuqing Town, Xiqing District. The main entrance is the ancient-town archway; after entering Ruyi Avenue, visitors can reach several courtyards and New Year picture venues. The public streets are free, while Shijia Grand Courtyard, Yangliuqing New Year Painting Museum, and Anjia Grand Courtyard sell separate tickets. A quick walk takes about 1–2 hours; several courtyards and the Yuhe River require 3–4 hours.
Opening arrangements
The streets can be walked throughout the day. Paid courtyards are often open around 8:30–17:00, but actual opening, maintenance, and last ticket sales follow each courtyard’s notice that day. Whether lanterns or light installations operate at night, their lighting time, and seasonal activities change with the season, weather, and programme. An open ancient-town street does not mean the courtyards stay open at night.

Choose your visit
Northern courtyards and New Year pictures
Shijia Grand Courtyard is known for its enclosed residential layout, old theatre, and brick, wood, and stone carvings. Anjia Grand Courtyard offers a different architectural setting. The Yangliuqing New Year Painting Museum introduces woodblock New Year picture techniques; if a hands-on session is offered, the rubbing activity and the way finished work can be taken away follow the on-site rules.
Yuhe River and public streets
The archway, Ruyi Avenue, Baoyu Square, and the Yuhe River are public spaces suitable for walking and photography. A riverside walk fits well after the courtyards. Lanterns, reflections, and festival displays depend on the season, weather, maintenance, and activities, so lighting time follows the day’s arrangements.
Build your day
A 1–2 hour short route
Enter through the ancient-town archway, walk along Ruyi Avenue to Baoyu Square, then choose the exterior of Shijia Grand Courtyard or enter if it is open. Continue to the New Year Painting Museum or leave from the public streets. Keep the short route to one paid courtyard rather than trying to enter several courtyards just before last ticket sales.
A 3–4 hour full route
In the morning, confirm that Shijia and Anjia Grand Courtyards are open, then choose two courtyards according to walking distance. In the afternoon, see the craft explanation or activity at the New Year Painting Museum, and finish with a walk along the Yuhe River. If you want to wait for evening views, first confirm the lighting activity and return transport; once you leave, paid courtyards do not reopen simply because you are walking through the town at night.
Get there
Bus and train
From the Tianjin Station area, take Bus 824 or 175 to the “Yangliuqing Ancient Town Shijia Grand Courtyard” stop. You can also take a train from Tianjin Station or another hub to Yangliuqing Station, then walk about 15 minutes to the town. Service intervals and last departures affect the return trip, so visitors without a car should record the return train or bus in advance.
Driving and parking
Navigate to the Yangliuqing Ancient Town parking area. Parking is about CNY2 per hour and spaces are relatively plentiful, although festivals and Spring Festival lantern events can cause congestion. After parking, walk from the archway or public entrance; Shijia Grand Courtyard uses its own entrance signs and ticket check.
Know before you go
Temporary closures and festival crowds
Shijia Grand Courtyard, the New Year Painting Museum, and Anjia Grand Courtyard may close temporarily for repairs, activities, or management changes. Confirm each one before departure. Spring Festival lantern events, weekends, and holidays bring noticeably larger crowds. A lantern event does not mean the same displays run all year or that all shops open at the same time.
Shopping and safety
When buying a New Year picture, prefer the museum or a clearly identified legitimate studio and check the work, craft, and price. Do not judge “handmade” quality only from a street vendor’s verbal claim. Along the Yuhe River and near bridges, stay away from unprotected water edges; do not enter the water or catch small animals. Water play and family activities must remain within open areas and follow staff guidance.
Courtyard tickets
Free entry to the ancient town applies only to public streets. Shijia Grand Courtyard, Anjia Grand Courtyard, and the New Year Painting Museum each have their own ticket, entrance, and last ticket-sale time. If one closes temporarily, the public streets and other open attractions continue according to their own notices.
Returning at night
If you want to wait for Yuhe lighting or a festival activity, confirm the bus, train, or ride-hailing return first. The ancient town’s public streets may remain open, but that does not mean every courtyard and shop operates at night. Stay on public paths and bridges while taking photos and do not lean over the water or cross barriers.
