Plan at a glance

Location and pace of visit

Xilamulun Park is in the Yongqing Subdistrict area of Horqin District, Tongliao. Its navigation point is near the northeast corner of Jiaotong Road and Xilamulun Avenue. With a lake, gardens, a zoo and an amusement area, the park is suited to a walk, a family outing and a glimpse of local life in Tongliao.

The park itself is free to enter and requires no reservation. Allow about 1–1.5 hours for the morin khuur (horsehead fiddle) sculpture and lakeside, or 2–3 hours to visit the zoo, stroll around the lake and take a break.

Opening arrangements and entrances

The park is free to visit and works well for a daytime walk. The zoo, amusement rides and boat rides each have their own operating hours. If you plan to use any of them in the evening, check the opening arrangements for that area first.

The park has several entrances. For a short visit, enter through the north-side entrance and follow the main path back. Dalelin Temple is nearby but has a separate entrance and operating schedule; check its visitor entrance and hours separately.

Tickets and visit details

Choose your visit

Lakeside scenery and the morin khuur sculpture

The morin khuur sculpture in the middle of the lake is one of the park’s landmarks. Look for a good viewing point from the shore. On a clear day, you may see its reflection on the water. Follow local photography rules and watch for slippery ground near the lake.

When lotus flowers and water lilies are in season in summer, you can take a slow lakeside walk after visiting the zoo. Bloom times depend on the season and weather, so flowers are not a year-round feature.

Zoo and amusement rides

The zoo has listed tigers, lions, black bears, sika deer, alpacas and monkeys, among other animals; the animals on view and activities can change. With children, check the notice at the zoo entrance, try to visit in the morning and follow the zoo’s rules on feeding and viewing distance.

The park has rides such as a Ferris wheel and pirate ship. Opening times, height requirements, prices and queues vary by ride. Check the on-site information before buying a ticket or joining a queue, and confirm in advance whether rides operate in the evening or at night.

Ways to enjoy the park

For an easy walk or photos of an urban park, focus on the morin khuur sculpture and lakeside. Families can start at the zoo, then decide whether to continue to the amusement area based on the children’s energy. Boat rides are an option only when operating that day.

If your group has different interests, meet near the morin khuur sculpture, then use the park map to choose the zoo or amusement area and agree on an entrance to return to.

For indoor exhibitions on Tongliao's regional history and culture, see Tongliao Museum.

Build your day

1–1.5-hour lakeside short route

Enter through the north-side entrance and follow the park’s main path to the morin khuur sculpture and lakeside viewpoints. Then use the day’s park map to choose an amusement area. Allow about 1–1.5 hours and return to your entrance along the main path.

If the rides are operating and you plan to use them, allow extra time for the queue and ride. If you skip the rides, continue farther along the lake before returning to the north entrance. Check that paths and lakeside areas are open on the day.

2–3-hour zoo and lake loop

Enter through the north gate and visit the zoo first, ideally in the morning, following the areas open to visitors. Then walk along the lake, look for lotus flowers and water lilies in summer, and take a break by the water. If boat rides are operating and the timing works, you can add one.

Allow about 2–3 hours and leave through the north gate. If the zoo or boat rides are closed, a lakeside walk still makes a complete visit without relying on one particular attraction.

Get there

Buses and walking

Take bus 12 or 17 to “三水厂(老干部活动中心)站” (No. 3 Water Plant / Retired Cadres Activity Center Stop) and walk west for about 200 metres. You can also take bus 9, 11, 62 or 67 to “西拉木伦公园站” (Xilamulun Park Stop), then choose an entrance on a map.

If you plan to visit both Dalelin Temple and the park, check the entrances and opening arrangements for both sites separately. After leaving the park, you can continue to Liaohe Park; evening views and access depend on conditions that day.

Driving and parking

Set your navigation to Xilamulun Park and choose a parking area by following entrance signs. Check on site for parking fees, available spaces and vehicle exit times.

After entering, note which entrance you used and where you parked. Follow the main path back when leaving. If you leave through a different exit, first confirm where your vehicle is and how to get back to it.

Know before you go

Park facilities and opening times

The park is free. The zoo, amusement rides and boat rides may charge separate fees, and each area has its own hours and rules. Before an evening visit, confirm that the area you plan to use is still open.

Try to visit the zoo in the morning. If the animal areas or rides are closed, a walk around the lake can still make a complete park visit.

Children and lakeside safety

Do not bring food to feed the animals, tap on enclosures, chase animals or cross barriers. An adult should stay with children in the zoo and by the lake; remain on paths and in areas where visitors are allowed.

The lakeshore and paths can change with weather and maintenance. If you encounter slippery ground, standing water or a temporary barrier, follow the signs and keep away from closed areas.

Dining after your visit

After leaving the park, you can visit Maliu Dairy Shop on Wanda Golden Street for urum or yogurt. Check that the shop is open before going; it is outside the park.

If you plan to continue to Liaohe Park, check the locations and transport connections on a map that day and allow time for the transfer. The shop visit and park outing are separate stops.
