How to Visit
1

Handle the reservation or queue first

Hongyun Golden Peak is inside Fanjingshan Scenic Area and does not need a separate entrance ticket, but summit access usually needs reservation or queueing. After the cableway, check the on-site reservation point before deciding whether to go to Mushroom Stone first or head straight for the peak.

Tip:This is the easiest place at Fanjingshan to lose time in a queue. Arriving late may mean a long wait or missing the climb.
2

Go light

The steps are narrow and steep, and some sections require slow movement while holding the rail. Large backpacks, long umbrellas, and slippery shoes will make the climb harder.

Tip:If you fear heights, have weak knees, or travel with older visitors or young children, do not treat the summit as compulsory.
3

Do Hongyun Golden Peak before Old Golden Peak

If you already have access to Hongyun Golden Peak, do it first, then go to Old Golden Peak. Old Golden Peak has less reservation pressure and is easier to adjust.

Tip:If you climb Old Golden Peak first, you may miss a useful queue window for Hongyun Golden Peak.
4

Leave time for going down

Hongyun Golden Peak is not a quick viewpoint. Queueing, climbing up, taking photos, and climbing down all take time, and you still need to return to the cableway station.

Tip:Fog is more likely later in the day, so finishing the peak earlier is safer.
Highlights
  • The split rock summit and two temple halls connected by a bridge create Fanjingshan's most iconic view.
  • The climb is part of the experience, with steep steps, narrow passageways, and slow movement.
  • On clear days, you can see cloud seas, ridges, and distant mountains.
  • Buddhist architecture and the sharp rock peak are closely tied together here.
  • Compared with Old Golden Peak, Hongyun Golden Peak is busier, more restricted, and more weather-sensitive.
Insider Tips

Avoid long skirts and slippery soles; both are awkward on the steps and rail sections.

If you fear heights or feel short of breath, take photos from below instead of forcing the climb.

The first entry wave in the morning is valuable because it can cut a lot of queue time.

If fog covers the peak, wait briefly if you have time; the view may open for a few minutes.

During thunderstorms, rockfall clearing, ice, or snow, follow staff instructions and adjust the route.
