Boat tour, tickets and timing
Hailu Island is in Xiakou Village, Chengshan Town, Rongcheng; navigate to “Hailu Island Scenic Area Ticket Office.” The attraction is experienced by boat around the island, with no land walking route. The reference adult ticket is CNY 120, children under 1.2 metres are listed as free, and children between 1.2 and 1.4 metres are listed at half price.
Opening hours are listed as 07:30–18:00, with the last boat around 16:30; the island cruise takes about 40 minutes. May–October is the better period for seabirds, with larger numbers from May to August, but strong wind can suspend service and the day's boat schedule takes priority.

Coastal cliffs and seabirds from the boat
The main experience is seeing sea-eroded cliffs, volcanic caves and the coastline from the boat. Visitors do not land and walk the island as they do on Jiming Island. Hailu Island suits visitors who want coastal photography, a short sea outing or a family bird-watching stop on the Rongcheng East Coast.
The top deck has the widest view, while the stern is often a good place to watch seabirds following the boat. Wind can make the deck feel cold, so bring a windproof layer and protect camera equipment.
Build your day
A one-hour boat outing
Buy a ticket at the ticket office, queue for boarding, complete the approximately 40-minute island cruise and return to the ticket office. This works well when combining Hailu Island with Chengshantou or Shendiaoshan on the same day and keeping the island visit focused on the sea.
A 2–3 hour slower route
Arrive earlier in the morning or on a weekday afternoon and allow time for ticketing and boarding. After boarding, go to the top deck first, then watch the sea-eroded cliffs, volcanic caves and seabirds as the boat circles the island. Hailu Island is a cruise-only experience, while Jiming Island has a land route after landing; the two boat services are ticketed and operated separately.
Get there
Driving and public transport
Navigate to “Hailu Island Scenic Area Ticket Office”; a parking area is nearby. A taxi from central Weihai costs a reference CNY 150. You can also take Intercity Bus Route 4 from Weihai Coach Station; confirm the day's service times before setting out.
After parking, go directly to the ticket office. Inside the attraction there is only the island cruise and no land walking route, so include both the ticket queue and boarding time in your schedule.
Know before you go
Cancellations and the last boat
Strong wind and other severe weather can affect sailing, and afternoon queues may be longer in peak periods. The last boat is around 16:30; when combining Hailu Island with nearby attractions, allow for boarding and weather changes before planning the return.
Deck conditions and seabirds
The top deck has a good view but stronger sea wind, and seabird droppings are possible on board. A hat, outer layer and wet wipes are useful. Seabirds are more numerous from May to August and may become less common after September, so the viewing experience varies by season.
