Plan at a glance

Two ways up

The Golden Summit is in the summit visitor area of Wudang Mountains. Enter through the Wudangshan Visitor Center, then choose Qiongtai or Nanyan according to your route. Qiongtai connects to the cableway, while Nanyan connects to the ancient-trail hike; the two directions differ substantially in effort and return arrangements.

Tickets and reservations

Adult entry is CNY126; the CNY164 pass includes the Golden Summit and Zixiao Palace, and the scenic shuttle is purchased separately at CNY76. The cableway is CNY45 one way or CNY85 round trip. Golden Summit/Taihe Palace use real-name timed reservations, normally at least one day ahead, with a selected date and time slot.

Choose your visit

Summit buildings and views

The Golden Summit is for the summit architectural complex, the Golden Hall, and views across Wudang's peaks. Clouds may appear in the early morning or after rain clears. Space on the summit platform is limited, so photography and time at the top must follow open routes and on-site crowd control.

The final steps

The cableway removes the long mountain ascent, but there are still about 30–60 minutes of steps from the upper station to the Golden Summit. Choose the Qiongtai cableway route to reduce sustained climbing; choose the Nanyan direction if you want the full ancient-trail experience.

Who it suits

The Golden Summit suits visitors interested in historic buildings, mountain scenery, and sunrise photography, as well as first-time visitors who want to control the amount of climbing with the cableway. The Nanyan ascent involves many steps and a long period of effort, so it calls for continuous hiking experience and flexibility when weather changes the route.

Build your day

The four- to five-hour cableway route

Take the scenic shuttle from the visitor center to Taizipo, continue toward Qiongtai according to the day's vehicles, and take the cableway up. Walk to the Golden Summit, complete the summit visit, and take the cableway down; allow about 4–5 hours. At Qiongtai, transfer to the scenic shuttle back to the visitor center. Check the Golden Summit reservation slot and the day's cableway operation before leaving.

Hiking up from Nanyan

Take the scenic shuttle from the visitor center to Nanyan or Wuyaling. Visit Nanyan, then follow the ancient trail through Langmei Shrine, Chaotian Palace, the First Heavenly Gate, and the Third Heavenly Gate to the Golden Summit. The pure ancient-trail ascent from Nanyan or Wuyaling takes about 2–4 hours, excluding the Nanyan Palace visit, queues, breaks, transfers, and return journey. You can walk back down or take the cableway from the summit to Qiongtai and transfer to the scenic shuttle; the complete arrangement, including the Nanyan Palace visit, time at the summit, transfers, and return, takes about 6–8 hours.

The one- to two-day split

A steadier two-day plan is to visit Taizipo, Zixiao Palace, and Nanyan on day one, then take the cableway from Qiongtai up to the Golden Summit on day two, complete the summit visit, and descend. If you have already confirmed mountain accommodation and plan to walk down from the Golden Summit toward Nanyan, separately check the accommodation, reservation, opening, and weather conditions; the ancient trail has no lighting before dawn.

Get there

Reach the visitor center from outside

From Wudangshan West Railway Station, take Route 301 or a taxi to the Wudangshan Visitor Center. From Shiyan Wudangshan Airport, take the airport shuttle to the scenic area. When driving, navigate to “Wudangshan Visitor Center,” park, and transfer to the scenic shuttle; there is no external vehicle entrance at the Golden Summit.

Follow the Taizipo split

After entering the scenic area, confirm the transfer direction at Taizipo: Qiongtai connects to the cableway, while Nanyan connects to the ancient trail. Whether the scenic shuttle runs directly, its departure interval, and the last return all follow the day's station signs and dispatch.

Know before you go

Reservation and entry

Make the Golden Summit timed reservation through the “Wudangshan Smart Tourism” mini-program or an authorized OTA; missing the slot may prevent entry. On statutory holidays lasting three days or more, successfully reserve the Golden Summit/Taihe Palace before buying a cableway ticket. Overseas visitors should carry their original passport and follow the ticketing instructions for passport holders when exchanging or verifying the ticket.

Queues, steps, and weather

On holidays, the Golden Summit reservation quota, cableway queue, and crowd control on the summit can change how long you can stay. The final steps can be slippery after rain, so wear shoes with good grip and carry rain protection. Clouds and sunrise depend on weather; if visibility drops or thunderstorms develop, follow on-site instructions and leave exposed high areas.

Descent and last departures

After descending by cableway to Qiongtai, you still need to transfer to the scenic shuttle. If you walk down, return to Nanyan or another designated stop for the vehicle. Cableway last departures and shuttle last departures on each branch do not have one year-round fixed timetable; confirm them separately on the day at 0719-5689877 and 0719-5669777.

Supplies and safety

Supplies are limited at the summit and along the ancient trail, so bring water and high-energy snacks; Nanyan can serve as a rest stop. Stay behind barriers and do not take photos in closed areas. If you feel unwell, descend at an open point rather than continuing into a steep section of the ancient trail.
