Location and entrance
Zixiao Palace is in the southwest of Wudang Mountains Scenic Area, below Zhanqi Peak, and is one of the stops on the mountain shuttle network. From the Wudangshan Visitor Center, take the scenic shuttle and get off at the “Zixiao Palace” stop; vehicles from the visitor center generally transfer at Taizipo for the Nanyan direction according to the day's schedule.
Tickets and visiting time
Zixiao Palace uses the main scenic-area ticketing: adult entry is CNY126, the CNY164 pass includes the Golden Summit and Zixiao Palace, and the scenic shuttle is purchased separately at CNY76. Allow about 30 minutes for the central-axis route or about 2–3 hours for a combined Zixiao Palace and Nanyan visit. On ordinary days, the scenic area typically operates around 07:30–17:30, with entry stopping at 17:30. Holiday schedules and temporary controls may differ.

The central architectural axis
The main sights are arranged along an axis of the Stele Pavilion, Shifang Hall, and Zixiao Hall. Red walls, green roofs, stone steps, and the surrounding forest form one continuous palace space. Visitors interested in Ming architecture, Daoist culture, and a quieter stop can use Zixiao Palace as the cultural section of a mountain itinerary.
Zixiao Hall and historical traces
Zixiao Hall uses a double-eaved hip-and-gable timber structure and deserves the longest look inside the palace complex. The Ming-era images inside are an indoor cultural highlight; follow the areas open on the day. Zixiao Palace also retains the historical association with the headquarters of the Red Third Army in 1932, which can be considered alongside the architecture.
How to fit it into a day
The walking area is compact, making Zixiao Palace suitable for families, older visitors, and architecture photographers, although the gate, steps, and central axis still require continuous walking. Visitors who enjoy streams or hiking can use it as a stop after Taizipo and before Nanyan, rather than treating it as the full summit route.
Build your day
The 30-minute central-axis route
Get off at Zixiao Palace station and enter the complex. Follow the central axis to the Stele Pavilion, Shifang Hall, and Zixiao Hall, then return to the shuttle stop by the same route; allow about 30 minutes. The stone steps and platforms in front of the halls are the main places to pause. Keep clear of moving groups and managed areas when taking photos.
The two- to three-hour combined route
Finish the central-axis visit first, then take the scenic shuttle to Nanyan, about 10 minutes away. At Nanyan, continue to Nanyan Palace, the cliff inscriptions, and Dragon Head Incense. Afterward, return from Nanyan station to the visitor center or connect to another direction; check the day's station signs and vehicle arrangements before setting out.
Connecting from Taizipo
When leaving the visitor center, first confirm whether Taizipo is the transfer point for the day's vehicles, then take a Nanyan-direction vehicle to Zixiao Palace. If the Golden Summit is also planned, check the timed reservation and return shuttle before deciding how long to stay at Zixiao Palace.
Get there
Reach the visitor center, then enter the mountain
Visitors arriving from outside the area should first go to the Wudangshan Visitor Center and then take the scenic shuttle to Zixiao Palace. From Wudangshan West Railway Station, take Route 301 or a taxi to the visitor center; from Shiyan Wudangshan Airport, take the airport shuttle to the scenic area. When driving, navigate to “Wudangshan Visitor Center” and follow that day's parking and traffic-flow signs.
Transfers inside the scenic area
Follow the day's station signs for the vehicle direction from the visitor center to Zixiao Palace. The Taizipo transfer and Nanyan-direction vehicle arrangements may change with dispatch. Zixiao Palace station leads directly into the complex; when leaving, return to the station for the next direction.
Know before you go
Reservations and tickets
Zixiao Palace has no separate ticket office at the foot of the mountain. Entry to the main scenic area still follows Wudang's real-name ticketing and reservation rules. After buying the CNY164 pass, Zixiao Palace is included and there is no additional CNY15 charge. The Golden Summit/Taihe Palace timed reservation is a separate arrangement, so check that time slot separately if you are continuing to the summit.
Opening, last shuttles, and weather
On ordinary days, the scenic area typically operates around 07:30–17:30, with entry stopping at 17:30. Weekend, holiday, and weather conditions can change the schedule. Zixiao Palace does not use one fixed last-shuttle time for the whole mountain, so read the station sign before leaving. Stone steps can be slippery after rain; carry rain protection and slow down.
Etiquette, photography, and supplies
Keep quiet inside the palace complex and follow on-site guidance around incense, halls, and managed areas. The steps in front of Zixiao Hall and the space between the Stele Pavilion and Shifang Hall work well for architectural photos. Vegetarian meals and other mountain food supplies vary by day; confirm service hours before relying on them, and carry water and insect repellent.
