Start with the visitor center and the two mountain directions
Wudang Mountains Scenic Area is in Wudangshan Town, Danjiangkou, Shiyan. The usual entrance at the foot of the mountain is the Wudangshan Visitor Center. The attractions are spread across the mountain and are mainly connected by the scenic shuttle; Taizipo is the key transfer point, while the Qiongtai–Golden Summit cableway route and the Nanyan–Golden Summit hiking route are the two main directions.
Tickets and a realistic time plan
The adult entry ticket is CNY126. The CNY164 pass includes the Golden Summit and Zixiao Palace, while the scenic shuttle is purchased separately at CNY76. From 16 July 2026, the cableway is CNY45 one way or CNY85 round trip. On ordinary days, the scenic area typically operates around 07:30–17:30, with entry stopping at 17:30. Holiday schedules and temporary controls may differ.

Qiongtai and the Golden Summit
The Golden Summit is for the mountain-top architectural complex, the Golden Hall, and views toward the clouds and surrounding peaks. The cableway removes most of the long climb, but the upper station is not the summit: you still need to walk a flight of steps to reach the top.
Nanyan Palace and the ancient trail
Nanyan Palace is built into a cliff area. Its stone hall, cliff inscriptions, and Dragon Head Incense form one of Wudang's most distinctive cliffside scenes. It is also the starting point for the classic hiking direction to the summit, passing Langmei Shrine, Chaotian Palace, and the Third Heavenly Gate.
Zixiao Palace and Taizipo
Zixiao Palace suits visitors who want a well-preserved palace layout, red walls, green roofs, and a central axis. Taizipo is useful between shuttle stops and transfers, with the Nine-Bend Yellow River Wall, the Five-Cloud Tower's One Pillar and Twelve Beams, and Fuzhen Temple. Both work well for visitors interested in architecture, Daoist culture, and cultural and documentary photography.
Match the route to your stamina
Hikers can make the Nanyan ancient trail the main line. Visitors who want less climbing can choose the Qiongtai cableway route and add Taizipo or Zixiao Palace. Wudang's architectural highlights are spread across different stops, so a first visit does not need to cover the entire mountain in one style.
Build your day
The five-to-six-hour quick route
From the visitor center, take the scenic shuttle toward Qiongtai; whether a transfer is needed at Taizipo depends on the day's vehicle schedule. At Qiongtai, take the cableway to the Golden Summit and allow about 1.5 hours at the top. Return by cableway to Qiongtai, take the shuttle to Taizipo for about 40 minutes of sightseeing, and then return to the visitor center. This saves the long climb but skips most of the ancient-trail scenery.
The one- to two-day highlights route
On the first part, visit Taizipo, Zixiao Palace, and Nanyan in that order from the visitor center; Nanyan can be used for a break, a meal, or a stay. On the second part, start hiking from Nanyan through Langmei Shrine, Chaotian Palace, and the Third Heavenly Gate to the Golden Summit. The pure ancient-trail ascent from Nanyan or Wuyaling takes about 2–4 hours, excluding the Nanyan Palace visit, queues, breaks, transfers, and the return journey. From the summit, walk down or take the cableway to Qiongtai and transfer to the shuttle.
Build the return into the route
Both the cableway route and the hiking route need a return plan. Cableway closures, the Golden Summit reservation slot, and the last shuttle on each branch can all affect the descent. Check the day's last departures at the visitor center, on station signs, and with on-site staff. If you plan to hike up from Nanyan, leave practical time for turning back or staying overnight.
Get there
High-speed rail and the airport
From Wudangshan West Railway Station, take Route 301 to the visitor center, usually about 20–40 minutes, or take a taxi for about 20 minutes. Bus and taxi fares vary with the day's route, vehicle, and platform. From Shiyan Wudangshan Airport, take the airport shuttle, usually about 40 minutes; check the day's departures.
Navigation and transfers inside the scenic area
Use “Wudangshan Visitor Center” as the destination when driving or booking a ride. Follow the on-site instructions for parking and drop-off; the scenic transport/parking line is 0719-5669777. Once inside, check the departure direction and whether Taizipo is the required transfer point before choosing the Qiongtai cableway route or the Nanyan hiking route.
Know before you go
Reservations and admission
Golden Summit/Taihe Palace use real-name timed reservations. Normally reserve at least one day ahead through the “Wudangshan Smart Tourism” mini-program or an authorized OTA, choosing a date and time slot; missing the slot may prevent entry. On statutory holidays lasting three days or more, secure the Golden Summit/Taihe Palace reservation before buying a cableway ticket. Overseas visitors should carry their original passport and follow the ticketing instructions for foreign passport holders, using a manual service counter if required.
Opening, queues, and last departures
On holidays, limited space at the Golden Summit and the reservation quota can change how long you can stay at the top. Confirm cableway operating hours and last up/down departures, as well as shuttle last departures for Nanyan, Zixiao Palace, and other branches, on the day. Steps, weather, and supplies
The ancient trail from Nanyan to the Golden Summit, the final approach to the summit, and the paths between palaces all include extended flights of steps. Stone can be slippery after rain, so wear shoes with good grip and carry rain protection. Food and supplies are limited on the mountain; Nanyan is a practical place for a break or meal, and it is wise to carry water and high-energy snacks.
Photography and safety boundaries
The Nine-Bend Yellow River Wall at Taizipo, the central buildings at Zixiao Palace, Nanyan's cliffs, and the Golden Summit's clouds each offer a different photographic subject. At cliffs, Dragon Head Incense, and the summit, stay within open paths and behind the barriers. If weather worsens, thunderstorms arrive, or an area is temporarily closed, follow staff instructions and do not enter restricted areas.
