Plan at a glance
Plan the street and museum separately
Jianghan Road Pedestrian Street is in Jiang'an District. It is open-air and currently free to enter. Street buildings, Hankou Water Tower, Xian'an Fang, and Pinghe Packing Factory (平和打包厂) suit a city walk, while Jianghan Customs Museum is a separate stop with its own reservation and hours.
The pedestrian street is currently accessible all day, but shops and venues generally operate around 09:00–22:00. Jianghan Customs Museum normally opens Tuesday–Sunday 09:00–17:00, with entry ending at 16:00; Monday is closed, and public holidays may follow special arrangements.
How much time to allow
The quick route takes about 1 hour and focuses on the main street and the exterior of Jianghan Customs before continuing to Hankou Riverfront Park. The highlights route takes about 2–3 hours and adds the Water Tower, Wuhan Art Museum exterior, Xian'an Fang, and Pinghe Packing Factory (平和打包厂). Side roads and long walking distances can push a full exploration beyond 20,000 steps.
If you plan to enter Jianghan Customs Museum, reserve through its official channel and put the entry cutoff in the first half of the route. If you are only walking the street, adjust around crowds and shop hours; food, shopping, and the museum each take their own time.

Buildings and city streets
The Jianghan Customs Museum building is the main landmark at the riverward end of the pedestrian street. Its exterior and clock chimes concentrate much of the area's historic character. Hankou Water Tower brings everyday city life and food close to the main street. For historic architecture, walk slowly from Xunlimen toward the river.
Xian'an Fang is made up of traditional Wuhan lifen (里份) lane compounds, while Pinghe Packing Factory (平和打包厂) retains an old warehouse's industrial structure. Both are better for brickwork, courtyards, and building lines than for a straight main-street walk. Turn into the side roads and follow the navigation signs and paths.
Day or night
Daytime works for street buildings, museum exteriors, and details in Xian'an Fang. Evening light is usually better for architectural details. At night, see Jianghan Customs lit up, then walk to Hankou Riverfront Park for the Yangtze views. Lighting and shop hours depend on the day.
Visitors who like architecture, city walks, and photography can take the highlights route. If you mainly want the commercial atmosphere or are crossing the river, enter from the middle at Jianghan Road Station to shorten the walk. Water Tower Food Street and Happy Station inside Jianghan Road Station are food options; individual shops depend on the day's hours.
Build your day
Highlights route: Xunlimen to Hankou Riverfront Park, about 2–3 hours
Leave Xunlimen Station through Exit C and enter near M+ Shopping Center. Walk along Jianghan Road toward the river, passing Hankou Water Tower and the Wuhan Art Museum exterior. Turn into Xian'an Fang and Pinghe Packing Factory (平和打包厂), then finish at Jianghan Customs Museum and walk to Hankou Riverfront Park after leaving the museum.
Jianghan Customs Museum requires a separate reservation. If you plan to enter, use its Tuesday–Sunday 09:00–17:00 hours and enter before 16:00. If it is closed or reservations are unavailable, keep the exterior photo stop and spend the time in Xian'an Fang and Pinghe Packing Factory (平和打包厂).
Quick route: Jianghan Road Station to the riverfront, about 1 hour
Leave Jianghan Road Station through Exit C or D and enter the middle of the pedestrian street. Follow the main street toward Jianghan Customs, take exterior photos, then continue on foot to Hankou Riverfront Park. This avoids most side roads and suits a one-hour window.
If you start at Xunlimen but have little time, stay on the main street and skip Xian'an Fang and Pinghe Packing Factory (平和打包厂). If you are already near Jianghan Customs, see the river first and return to the commercial area if time remains. Street access and shop hours are separate.
Get there
Two metro stations
Xunlimen Station (循礼门站) connects Lines 1 and 2. From Exit C, you can begin near the walking-street start and head toward the river. Jianghan Road Station (江汉路站) connects Lines 2 and 6. Exits C and D bring you near the middle and are better for a quick entry into the core shopping area.
Choose Xunlimen if you plan to walk the full riverward route; choose Jianghan Road Station to shorten the first section. Use Jianghan Customs Museum or Hankou Riverfront Park as the end target, with the Water Tower, Xian'an Fang, and Pinghe Packing Factory (平和打包厂) as intermediate stops.
Walking and parking
There are many side roads and long walking distances around the street, so wear comfortable walking shoes. There is no stable close parking plan; the core area is congested and spaces are limited. Use the metro where possible, and do not stop in a pedestrian-street entrance or along the roadside.
Jianghan Customs is within walking distance of Hankou Riverfront Park, and Li Huangpi Road can continue from the riverfront. If your next stop is the riverfront or Zhiyin Wharf, confirm its exact entrance and plan the return around walking and transfers.
Know before you go
Spending, photos, and crowds
Food, local products, and portrait services on the main street charge separately. Confirm the price, the item, and any extra charge before paying. If someone approaches you for a photo, ask how much it costs; leave if the price or service is unclear.
The main street becomes much busier on weekends and public holidays, slowing walking, photos, and shop visits. Weekdays or later afternoon are better for combining architecture and night views, but Jianghan Customs Museum's entry cutoff remains 16:00.
Museum and nearby plans
Jianghan Road Pedestrian Street is free, while Jianghan Customs Museum is free with an official reservation. They have separate entry rules. Galleries, shops, and the street keep different hours, so confirm the next stop before entering.
Water Tower Food Street and Happy Station work for snacks; choose a full meal from shops open that day. Jianghan Road connects with Hankou Riverfront Park, Li Huangpi Road, and Wuhan Art Museum. If you finish with the riverfront lights or another night activity, return according to the last public-transport service and walking distance.
