Location, scope and ticket dates
Liyuan Garden is at No. 18 Huanhu Road on the north side of Lihu Lake. It is a relatively small lakeside garden with a manageable route. The high-season ticket is CNY 45 for March 3–June 16 and September 18–November 30; the low-season ticket is CNY 30 for December 1–March 1 and June 17–September 17. March 2 falls between the listed periods, so confirm that day's price on site.
Opening hours and time needed
The garden opens daily from 07:00 to 17:30. No reservation is required and tickets can be bought on site. A quick visit takes about one hour and the full route takes 2–3 hours; treat Liyuan as a shorter garden stop rather than planning it like Yuantouzhu, and leave time to walk the waterfront at a comfortable pace.

South Causeway, the long corridor and Chunqiu Pavilion
The main sights are Nan Di Chun Xiao, the varied rockeries, the lakeside Thousand-Step Corridor and Chunqiu Pavilion, which gives a higher view over the garden. The corridor's lattice windows create framed views, Chunqiu Pavilion looks across the grounds, and Nan Di Chun Xiao has its peach-and-willow scenery in spring, with better light for photographs in the morning.
Who it suits
The garden suits visitors who enjoy Jiangnan gardens, photography and waterside walks. Families and couples can use it as a slower leisure stop. Some rockery areas require climbing and are inconvenient for wheelchairs or strollers; the in-garden boat ride is short and enclosed, so the walking route and architecture are the better use of time and budget.
Build your day
A 1-hour quick route
Enter through the main gate and follow the route through Siji Pavilion, Nan Di Chun Xiao, the Thousand-Step Corridor and Chunqiu Pavilion. Depending on your energy, return the same way or leave from the nearest exit. This covers Liyuan's main waterfront, framed-view and high-point stops and works well if you are continuing to Yuantouzhu or Wuxi MixC.
A 2–3-hour full route
Start at the main gate and continue through Baihua Shanfang, Siji Pavilion and Nan Di Chun Xiao, then follow the clockwise route through Jiashan Songcui, Lianfang, Yaoyu Xuan, the Thousand-Step Corridor, Huxin Pavilion, Jinghan Shuiting and Chunqiu Pavilion before leaving. This direction reduces backtracking; after rain, the stone paths are slippery and the rockery sections should be taken according to the conditions underfoot.
Get there
Metro and bus
Take Wuxi Metro Line 4 to Lihu Bridge Station, leave through Exit 1 and walk about 15 minutes. Buses 1, 20 and 82 stop at Liyuan Park. Public transport is more predictable on holidays because roads and parking entrances around the garden can become congested.
Driving and parking
There is a parking lot opposite Liyuan, but queues are possible on holidays. Drivers can consider parking farther away at Changqiao and walking in; confirm the parking point and walking direction before departure, since finding a space near the entrance at the last minute usually takes longer.
Know before you go
Rain, holidays and mobility
The lakeside stone paths become slippery in rain, so wear shoes with good grip. To avoid crowds, arrive near opening time or after 15:30; holiday parking waits may be longer, and steps around the rockeries can slow wheelchair and stroller movement.
Food and nearby planning
Food choices inside the garden are limited, so carry a small snack or plan a meal after leaving. Liyuan can be combined with Yuantouzhu, but the two attractions have separate tickets and opening hours; after the visit, consider local Wuxi restaurants such as Hubin Hotel or Liyuan Hotel.
