Four-cave route, entrance and tickets

Shanjuan Cave Scenic Area is in Shanjuan Village, Zhangzhu Town, Yixing, Wuxi. The cave is divided into the Middle, Upper, Lower and Water Caves, with a one-way route and no backtracking; the cave temperature stays around 23°C. The basic adult ticket is about CNY 70, the half-price ticket for minors is CNY 35, and children under 1.4 metres are free. A package of about CNY 110 often includes the admission, magic carpet and a cable car or flying car, so confirm the contents before buying.

Opening hours and time needed

The area opens daily from 08:00 to 16:30, with last entry at 15:30. Book with your real name one day ahead through the official mini program or a travel platform. The four caves and underground boat take about 1.5 hours; adding the Liangzhu Culture Park, pottery studio, magic carpet and hilltop sights takes about 2.5–3 hours. P1 at the visitor centre is the easiest parking lot and costs about CNY 20 per day.

Choose your visit

Caves, the underground river and Liangzhu culture

The four-cave route includes the Lion and Elephant Hall in the Middle Cave, Ten-Thousand-Year Plum and Lotus Reflection in the Upper Cave, the waterfall in the Lower Cave and a boat through the approximately 120-metre underground river in the Water Cave. Outside the cave, the Liangzhu Culture Park, Yingtai Academy and scheduled opera excerpts add a cultural stop; Yuanyuanting Pavilion and the old Shanquan Temple on the hill suit visitors willing to climb further.

Who it suits

Most visitors can use the four caves and underground boat as a cool short route. Families can add the flying car, jungle adventure or water park if energy allows, while photographers can look for the cave lighting, the Lower Cave waterfall and the pink cable car on the hill. The magic carpet, cable car and Juanjuan Flying Car may be packaged differently, so choose extra activities according to both interest and physical ability.

Build your day

A 1.5-hour four-cave route

Enter through the main entrance, follow the Middle Cave to the Lion and Elephant Hall, continue through the Upper Cave and its Cloud-and-Mist Hall, then visit the Lower and Water Caves and take the boat out through the underground river. This focuses on the natural cave features and the water route for visitors with limited time; holiday queues for the boat will extend the visit.

A 2.5–3-hour full route

After the Middle, Upper, Lower and Water Caves, go to the Liangzhu Culture Park according to the day's performance time. Then choose the pottery studio or intangible-heritage rubbing, take the magic carpet up the hill, visit Yuanyuanting Pavilion and the old Shanquan Temple, and descend by cable car or Juanjuan Flying Car. The cave route itself is one-way; the outdoor activities involve climbing, so finish the cave highlights before adding extra stops.

Get there

Driving and parking

The drive takes about 1.5 hours from central Wuxi and about two hours from Shanghai or Nanjing. Navigate to P1 at the Shanjuan Cave visitor-centre parking lot. P2 is closer to the ticket check but may require a 15-minute walk or a CNY 5 shuttle ride back after the visit; the free west-gate ground parking lot is about a 10-minute uphill walk from the entrance and works only if you have planned to leave from that side.

Public transport

From Yixing Railway Station, Tourist Bus 202 runs directly to the scenic area entrance. Once there, fit the four caves, hilltop activities and return journey into the same schedule; confirm the shuttle route through an official channel and follow the signs toward your parking lot or bus stop when leaving.

Know before you go

Tickets, queues and safety

Before buying, confirm what the basic ticket and package ticket each include. The cable car and flying car are usually alternatives, while pottery firing and framing cost extra. Cave floors are wet, so wear non-slip sports shoes; on holidays, queues for the boat and flying car can be long, and early entry makes the full route easier.

Pottery studio and parking return

The pottery studio may promote frames, shaping, firing or framing services; ask the price and whether the service is optional before joining. P2 and the west parking lot have different return arrangements, so choose the shuttle or walking route according to where you parked. Yixing Bamboo Forest, Zhanggong Cave and Tao'er Factory are nearby options, but leave enough time for the return journey.
