Visitor centre and vehicle entry

Lumen Mountain is in Dongjin Town, Xiangzhou District, about 15 kilometres southeast of central Xiangyang. The visitor centre is where you buy tickets and handle vehicle entry. Driving up toward Lumen Temple suits visitors with limited walking ability or families; the walking route starts at the visitor centre.

Ticket and changing arrangements

The adult ticket is about CNY 45–50 and the student ticket about CNY 25. Normal hours are roughly 08:30–17:00, with no advance reservation required. The vehicle-entry fee, possible free-admission arrangements on the first and fifteenth days of the lunar month, and the time and price of vegetarian meals at Lumen Temple can all change; check the day's arrangements when you arrive.

Lumen Temple and Wangjiang Pavilion

Lumen Temple is the main cultural landmark on the mountain, while Wangjiang Pavilion gives a high view over the Han River. They form the core of the easy driving route. Lumen Mountain is closely associated with Meng Haoran and Tang poetry; Haoran Poetry Academy focuses on related poetry culture.

Haoran Poetry Academy, Lumen Archway, and bamboo groves

Haoran Poetry Academy, Lumen Archway, and Zhulin Chanjing (竹林禅境) form a poetry-and-culture line from the foot of the mountain toward the middle slopes. Stone paths and shade make it suitable for a light walk. Visitors who enjoy poetry, temples, driving, and quiet mountain scenery can take the easy route; choose the full walking route if you want more climbing.

Driving or a half-day walk

Allow about 2–3 hours for the easy driving route, covering Lumen Temple, Wangjiang Pavilion, Haoran Poetry Academy, and Lumen Archway. The complete walking route takes about 4–6 hours from the visitor centre up the mountain. The site is large; Bawang Zhai (霸王寨) and Lion Peak are demanding extensions and should be assessed separately for distance and energy.

For a reconstructed film-set and evening-show stop, see Xiangyang Tang City.

Build your day

2–3-hour easy driving route

Buy the ticket and confirm the vehicle arrangement at the visitor centre, then drive to the parking area near Lumen Temple. Visit the temple and walk to Wangjiang Pavilion for the river view. On the way back down, stop at Haoran Poetry Academy and finish with photos at Lumen Archway near the foot of the mountain. If you want a vegetarian meal at the temple, check that day's supply first.

4–6-hour walking route

Start at the visitor centre and walk through Lumen Archway, Zhulin Chanjing, and Haoran Poetry Academy, then climb via Suling Shijing (苏岭诗径) to Lumen Temple. If you have the energy, add Lion Peak or Bawang Zhai; these extra climbs require separate time for exertion and the return journey.

A vegetarian meal as a flexible stop

Lumen Temple may serve a vegetarian meal around 11:30 at about CNY 10, but the supply and timing are not fixed. Ask about the day's arrangement when you reach the temple, then decide whether to adjust the Wangjiang Pavilion and downhill sections.

Get there

Driving is the most direct option

Navigate to “Lumen Mountain Visitor Centre.” Complete ticketing and vehicle-entry procedures there, then follow the road instructions up the mountain. Parking is available, and vehicle entry reduces the long climb, but driving on the mountain roads and the parking position follow the on-site directions.

Limited public transport

Bus 53, a tourist route, goes directly to the area. Another option is bus 52 from Xiangyang East Railway Station to Botanical Garden Station, followed by the final connection. Route 52 runs infrequently; check the time in the “Xiangyang Travel” app and allow waiting time for the return from the mountain.

Know before you go

Supplies and footwear

There are few shops on the mountain, so bring enough water and snacks for a walking route. Lumen Archway, the poetry academy, Suling Shijing, and the mountain temple are connected by stone paths and slopes; shoes with good grip are more suitable than light sandals for continuous walking.

Changing benefits and extra fees

Free-admission arrangements may be available on the first and fifteenth days of the lunar month. Vehicle-entry fees and vegetarian meals may also change. Confirm the day's admission, vehicle fee, and temple meal separately at the visitor centre.

Plan it as a separate outing

Lumen Mountain is some distance from central Xiangyang and public-transport services are limited, so it works best as a half-day or full-day destination. If you add Bawang Zhai or another extension, keep time and energy for the return; complete the foot-of-mountain academy, summit temple, and more demanding sections in separate stages.
