New-building address
Xiangyang Museum (New Building) is at No. 228 Shengli Street in Xiangcheng District, with the entrance facing the Tang-style main building. Prince Zhaoming Tower (昭明台) is the old museum building and a landmark inside the ancient city; it is a different place. Navigate directly to “Xiangyang Museum.”
Free entry and opening hours
Basic admission is free and no advance reservation is required. Visitors with a Chinese Resident Identity Card can enter by scanning the card. Visitors without a Chinese Resident Identity Card can follow the on-site instructions to complete real-name registration by scanning with Alipay. Foreign visitors must complete the registration themselves and carry an original passport or another valid identity document. Regular hours are Tuesday–Sunday, 09:00–17:00, with last entry at 16:00; the museum is closed on Mondays, and holiday arrangements may change.

A six-gallery history sequence
The six galleries follow a broad sequence from prehistoric times through the Xia, Shang, and Zhou periods; Qin and Han; the Three Kingdoms; the Sui, Tang, and Song periods; and the Yuan, Ming, and Qing periods. Gallery 4 is the main stop for Three Kingdoms material, Gallery 5 covers the Sui–Tang–Song period, and Gallery 3's pottery wall is useful for seeing how groups of objects are displayed.
Objects to prioritise
In Gallery 4, look for the bronze horse and the jade pig-shaped grip. Gallery 5 includes a Southern Song kitchen-scene mural and a Tang-era Changsha Kiln bowl with a foreign figure. The bronze horse is worth viewing from the side for its proportions, while children can look for details among the pottery dogs, pottery leopards, and wall-length displays.
An indoor half-day visit
The new building suits history and art enthusiasts, families, and visitors who want an indoor break from hot weather. For a quick introduction to Xiangyang, focus on Galleries 4 and 5. For the full chronological sequence, allow 3–4 hours and begin on the first floor.

Build your day
1.5–2-hour highlights route
After entering, go directly to the second floor. Start with the bronze horse and jade pig-shaped grip in Gallery 4, then see the Southern Song mural and Changsha Kiln bowl in Gallery 5. Use the remaining time for Gallery 3's pottery displays. This route works well when time is limited or when you mainly want the Three Kingdoms and Sui–Tang–Song sections.
3–4-hour chronological route
Start on the first floor and follow Gallery 1 for prehistory, Gallery 2 for the Xia–Shang–Zhou period, Gallery 3 for Qin and Han, then continue upstairs to Gallery 4 for the Three Kingdoms, Gallery 5 for the Sui–Tang–Song period, and Gallery 6 for the Yuan, Ming, and Qing periods. Finish at the exit after completing the six-gallery sequence.
Complete any required entry registration first
If you do not have a Chinese Resident Identity Card, complete the required on-site real-name registration before entering the galleries, and check the day's entry arrangements during holidays. If you are combining the museum with the ancient city, North Street, or Prince Xiang's Mansion, remember that entry stops at 16:00; leave the all-day street areas for the afternoon or evening.
Get there
Bus and walking
Take bus routes 1, 5, 13, 505, 534, or 546 to Xianshan Station, then walk about 10 minutes to the new building. For a taxi, use “Xiangyang Museum” as the destination and enter through the Tang-style main building.
Parking
The museum has a parking area. Parking charges or waivers may change, so follow the current on-site notice when you arrive.
Know before you go
Security and museum rules
You will pass through security, and food and drinks are not allowed in the galleries. Finish snacks and drinks outside. Follow the photography notices in each exhibition area, and do not lean on display cases or touch objects.
Keep the new building separate from Prince Zhaoming Tower
Prince Zhaoming Tower works as an ancient-city and North Street landmark; the new building at No. 228 Shengli Street is the six-gallery museum. Plan the ancient city according to its own route, and plan the museum according to its opening days and last-entry time. The two locations and their collections should be navigated separately.
Food nearby
There are relatively few food options around the new building. After the visit, go toward North Street in Xiangyang Ancient City or the area near Hubei University of Arts and Science. If you want an evening walk on North Street, visit the museum first and eat or walk through the street district after closing.
