Start at Linhan Gate
Xiangyang Ancient City sits within the city moat in Xiangcheng District. For a first visit, set Linhan Gate, also called Little North Gate, as your navigation target. From here you can climb the city wall and continue directly into North Street, combining an elevated view with a walk through the historic district.
Free areas and time planning
The ancient-city streets, North Street, and the basic city-wall experience are generally free to access. Prince Xiang's Mansion, Zhongxuan Watch Tower (仲宣楼), and the interior exhibitions or upper levels of Prince Zhaoming Tower (昭明台) are separate stops. Allow about 1–1.5 hours for a short visit, 3–4 hours for a route covering the wall, North Street, and the southern section, or 2–3 hours for an evening visit.
The ancient city and North Street can be explored on foot throughout the day. The city wall is open at roughly 08:00–21:00, while indoor attractions keep their own hours. Xiangyang Museum (New Building) at No. 228 Shengli Street is separate from the old museum at Prince Zhaoming Tower; use the new museum's address when going there.

City wall, Mrs. Han City Wall, and river views
The Linhan Gate tower looks toward the Han River, Fancheng, and the northern outline of the old city. Walking west along the wall brings you to Mrs. Han City Wall (夫人城), so even a short route covers the wall structure and riverside views. This is a good starting point for history enthusiasts, urban walkers, and photographers; for sunset, use the wall or the Han River waterfront.
North Street and the Prince Zhaoming Tower landmark
North Street runs from Prince Zhaoming Tower to Linhan Gate. Street food along the main strip, the Guanjia Alley (管家巷) side lane, and the evening lights make this the busiest walking section of the old city. Prince Zhaoming Tower is useful as an exterior landmark and photo stop from the street; its indoor exhibitions, upper level, and reservation arrangements should be treated separately. For a fuller look at local historical collections, go to the new museum.

1–1.5-hour short route
Climb the wall at Linhan Gate, walk west to Mrs. Han City Wall, descend, and then enter North Street toward Prince Zhaoming Tower. You can finish on North Street or return toward Linhan Gate. The wall, Mrs. Han City Wall, North Street, and the exterior of Prince Zhaoming Tower make a representative short route without changing the free street-based plan.
3–4-hour full route
Linhan Gate wall → Mrs. Han City Wall → descend into North Street → Guanjia Alley → Prince Zhaoming Tower → Prince Xiang's Mansion → Zhongxuan Watch Tower. Choose the southern stops according to your pace and their opening conditions. Prince Xiang's Mansion is about CNY 25, while Zhongxuan Watch Tower is roughly CNY 10–15; after Zhongxuan Watch Tower, return toward North Street or leave from the south side according to your accommodation and onward transport.
2–3-hour evening route
Enter from North Street in the late afternoon, eat first, then go to the Linhan Gate wall or the Han River waterfront for sunset. Return to North Street and Guanjia Alley after the lights come on. To reduce queues, visit the wall and side lanes around 16:00–18:00, then take in the lit streets after dinner.
Get there
Bus and navigation targets
From central Xiangyang, take bus routes 1, 8, or 24 and get off at Shizijie (Guanjia Alley), then walk about three minutes toward Linhan Gate. For a taxi, use “Xiangyang Ancient City Little North Gate Parking Lot” or “Linhan Gate.” North Street, Guanjia Alley, and the wall are best connected on foot.
Parking
There are parking options near Little North Gate, but the underground parking at Linhan Gate may fill up during holidays. If it is full, park farther away and walk into the old city. The stone paving and dense pedestrian areas are not suited to repeated short car transfers.

What is free and what is separate
Access to the ancient city, North Street, and the basic city-wall experience is free. The interior of Prince Zhaoming Tower, Prince Xiang's Mansion, Zhongxuan Watch Tower, and other paid stops should be planned separately. Popular shops may have queues; check prices before buying food, drinks, or souvenirs, and choose your stopping points according to the crowds on the main street and in Guanjia Alley.
Walking and safety
The route includes wall stairs, stone paving, and riverside walking. Wear shoes with good grip if you plan to walk continuously for 3–4 hours. North Street, Linhan Gate, and the waterfront become busier during holidays; keep away from wall edges and crowded passages when taking photos, and do not include sky-lantern releases or similar activities that may create fire, aviation, or local-management risks.
Separate hours for indoor stops
The ancient city and North Street are walkable throughout the day, but the wall, Prince Zhaoming Tower's interior, and other paid stops follow their own hours. Check the on-site ticketing at Prince Xiang's Mansion, as well as the opening arrangements for Zhongxuan Watch Tower and the new museum; indoor attractions do not automatically follow the street district's all-day access.
