How to Visit
1

Make the Tomb of Prince Zhanghuai the final stop on the Qianling route.

The visitor-center route runs through the Tomb of Princess Yongtai & Qianling Museum, the Tomb of Prince Yide, the main Qianling mausoleum, and then the Tomb of Prince Zhanghuai.

Tip:Starting here and travelling in reverse makes shuttle connections and the return journey harder to manage.
2

Use the Qianling Scenic Area ticket and sightseeing shuttle to reach the tomb.

The Tomb of Prince Zhanghuai is included in the Qianling ticket, and shuttle-ticket holders may get on and off at stops across the scenic area.

Tip:No separate ticket price is listed for this tomb, so do not buy a supposed additional tomb-chamber ticket.
3

Follow the murals in a clear order inside the passage.

See the Envoys mural, Polo Players, Hunting Procession, and Watching Birds and Catching Cicadas in sequence; this makes the contrast between diplomatic, sporting, ceremonial, and palace-life subjects easier to follow.

Tip:The originals were removed for conservation, so the passage displays reproductions.
4

Move slowly through the sloping passage and watch both your footing and head clearance.

The passage is about 71 metres long with a steep slope; use a steady pace throughout.

Tip:Do not stop for photos on the incline or rush up and down, as this obstructs other visitors and increases the risk of slipping.
Highlights
  • The Envoys mural depicts Tang contact with foreign delegations.
  • Polo Players records court sport and horsemanship in the Tang period.
  • Hunting Procession shows a large-scale royal outing.
  • Watching Birds and Catching Cicadas offers a more intimate palace-life scene alongside the formal and hunting images.
Insider Tips

Visiting after the main mausoleum avoids backtracking.

The dim, sloping passage places demands on knees, balance, and shoe grip.

If choosing one tomb for its mural themes, slow down here instead of trying to rush between stops.

Most original finds, including murals, are held by the Shaanxi History Museum; focus the on-site visit on the tomb structure and reproduced displays.
