Plan around the visitor center

Xingtai Grand Canyon is in Hejiaping Village, Luolu Town, Xindu District, about 65 km from downtown Xingtai, or roughly 1.5 hours by car. Visitors usually start at the visitor center and take an electric shuttle to the core area about 2 km away. The common short loop takes about 2.5–3 hours; the long loop takes about 4–5 hours.

The scenic area sits at an average elevation above 1,000 m. The average July temperature is about 24°C. Opening hours are 08:00–17:30, with last entry at 16:30.

Tickets and when to buy

The reference price for an adult ticket bought at the gate is CNY 50. Online discounted tickets are about CNY 38–40, and some promotional online tickets must be purchased at least one hour in advance. Short- and long-loop ticket bundles are about CNY 78–118. Included transport varies by ticket, so check whether the electric shuttle, mountain bus, and Taihang Sky Ladder are covered before booking.

Children under 1.2 m and visitors aged 70 or older may qualify for free admission; eligibility depends on the proof accepted by the ticket office and the current terms. Advance booking is not mandatory, but it is recommended in peak season. Check the booking page and on-site information for the current price.

Choose your visit

Red cliffs and canyon scenery

The main draw is the red cliff scenery and a series of connected gorges. One-Line Sky, Changzui Gorge, and Longtan Waterfall are on the short-loop side. Farther in, the route reaches Liushui Gorge, Huangchao Gorge, the cliffside plank walk, and Nantianchi, moving from narrow rock passages to viewpoints higher on the mountain.

Cliffside walk, sky ladder, and seasonal views

The suspended walkway in Longyin Gorge (龙吟峡) follows the cliff face; visitors who are uncomfortable with heights can skip it. The Taihang Sky Ladder is about 175 m high and offers views down into the canyon. Waterfalls and streams are more pronounced in summer when water levels are higher; water may be lower in April and May, while the mountain forest turns color from September to November.

The short loop mainly follows gentler boardwalks and suits visitors short on time or families whose members would find the long route difficult. The Fairy-Tale World (童话世界) area can also be a stop for families with children. Hikers and photographers may prefer the long loop. One-Line Sky is suited to photos looking along the narrow gorge, and the Sky Ladder can be photographed from above or below.

Build your day

The 2.5–3-hour short loop

Take the electric shuttle from the visitor center to Changzui Gorge, then walk to One-Line Sky and Longtan Waterfall. Return the way you came and take the shuttle back out. The route covers the core sights and has relatively gentle paths. It takes about 2.5–3 hours; last entry is at 16:30, so arriving close to that time will not leave enough time for the full loop.

The 4–5-hour long loop

Take the electric shuttle from the visitor center, then hike uphill past Liushui Gorge, Huangchao Gorge, and the cliffside plank walk to the Nantianchi viewpoint. From there, take the mountain bus downhill and the electric shuttle back to the visitor center. The loop links several gorges without retracing the same route, but the sustained climb takes more effort than the short loop. Some connecting footpaths have steep steps, which may be difficult for visitors with knee problems. The exact walking sections depend on the day’s arrangements.

Transport and queues

The electric shuttle connects the visitor center with the core area. The mountain bus and Taihang Sky Ladder serve different points at different elevations. During public holidays, queues for the mountain bus and Sky Ladder may exceed 50 minutes, adding to the long-loop time. Check the ticket details to see which rides are included.

Get there

Driving, parking, and bus

For driving, navigate to “Xingtai Grand Canyon Parking Lot.” Parking is about CNY 10 per day, and there are usually many spaces; during peak season, follow staff directions. The scenic area is about 65 km from downtown Xingtai, a drive of roughly 1.5 hours. Roads outside the attraction may be congested on public holidays.

Bus 601 has a Grand Canyon branch that serves the scenic area, but check its stops and service frequency before setting out; the ride may take a while. Some stop signs do not clearly show the direction, so confirm the stop, direction, and return service before boarding.

Reaching the core area

The visitor center is about 2 km from the core entrance. An electric shuttle costs about CNY 10–15 per person. Vehicles and pedestrians share part of the road, so watch for traffic if walking. The mountain bus and Sky Ladder serve routes within the scenic area; check whether your ticket covers them.

Know before you go

Steps, weather, and crowds

Wear shoes with good grip and bring drinking water. The long loop climbs on foot and includes steep steps; visitors with knee problems or limited stamina may prefer the short loop. Boardwalks and steps can be slippery after rain. The suspended walkway is not suitable for visitors afraid of heights. Watch for vehicles on shared shuttle roads.

Morning light is suitable for photographing One-Line Sky, the suspended walkway, and the Sky Ladder. Rainbows and a sea of clouds may appear after summer rain, depending on the weather.

Food and nearby stops

There are farm restaurants partway up the mountain; a meal is about CNY 50 per person. You can also bring water and snacks. Roadside noodle restaurants are near the scenic area, and Luolu Town has dishes such as grilled fish and spicy chicken hot pot.

The separate canyon rafting attraction is about 16 km from Xingtai Grand Canyon. Check its ticket and operating arrangements separately.
