How to Visit
1

First confirm whether you mean the Wusha museum or the in-situ protection hall

Xingyi Guizhou Dragon Geopark Museum usually refers to the fossil museum in Wusha Town. However, since April 8, 2026, the Wusha museum has been temporarily closed, with reopening time to be announced later. The more reliable current visit point is Guizhou Dragon Fossil In-situ Protection Hall, about 4 km away.

Tip:Do not follow old guides directly to the Wusha museum. Before leaving, confirm which venue is open that day, or you may arrive at a closed site.
2

Use the in-situ protection hall as the current main visit

The closure notice states that Guizhou Dragon Fossil In-situ Protection Hall remains available during the Wusha museum closure. Activities such as fossil-fragment collection, fossil restoration, Guizhou Dragon rubbing, and fossil model making can continue. Families with children or fossil interest can treat it as a half-day science experience.

Tip:This is not a normal photo stop. Its value is in hands-on activities and understanding how fossils are found. If your group is not interested in geology, shorten the stop.
3

If the Wusha museum reopens, do "exhibits first, activity second"

The Wusha museum's normal visitor notice lists free access to exhibits and opening hours of 09:00-17:00. After it reopens, the better order is to see Guizhou Dragon, ichthyosaur, and other fossil displays first, then go to the in-situ protection hall for a fossil activity.

Tip:The two venues are not the same place. There are several kilometers between them, so taxi or self-driving is more reliable than trying to improvise public transport.
4

Prepare for a family study activity, not a quick museum walk

The fossil activities may take place outdoors or in semi-outdoor spaces, so bring sun protection, comfortable shoes, and patience. Do not expect to find a complete large fossil. The point is helping children understand rock layers, fossil fragments, and restoration.

Tip:If you mainly want a large indoor gallery with air conditioning, wait until the Wusha museum reopens.
Highlights
  • Guizhou Dragon fossils are among Xingyi's most representative geology topics and help explain that the area is not only about peaks and canyons.
  • After the Wusha museum reopens, the free exhibits will be useful for building basic context before doing hands-on activities.
  • Guizhou Dragon Fossil In-situ Protection Hall is the more practical current visit point for families and study groups.
  • Fossil-fragment collection, restoration, rubbing, and model making are more participatory than simply viewing displays.
  • If you later visit Wanfenglin and Maling River Canyon, learning the geology first can make the natural landscapes easier to understand.
Insider Tips

Since April 8, 2026, the Wusha museum has been temporarily closed. Do not follow old travel notes directly there.

When navigating, enter either "Guizhou Dragon Fossil In-situ Protection Hall" or "Xingyi Global Geopark Museum." Do not only type "geopark."

For family activities, reserve half a day. Do not squeeze it into the last hour before a transfer.

Do not touch fossils or exhibits freely. Explain the rules to children before entering.

If time is short, choose the currently open in-situ protection hall activity instead of moving back and forth between two locations.
