How to Visit
1

Confirm whether it is open before deciding to go deep

Nidang Stone Forest is currently marked as temporarily closed on Trip.com, and I did not find a clearer official reopening notice. Treat it as a raw stone-forest stop only after confirming it is open. Do not make a dedicated trip from Xingyi city while the opening status is uncertain.

Tip:If you are already passing Nidang Town or the He Yingqin Former Residence area, keep it as a backup. For a dedicated visit, confirm opening and road conditions first.
2

Treat it as a raw geological site, not a mature scenic area

Nidang Stone Forest is about stone peaks, pillars, shoots, and a less-developed karst stone-forest environment. It does not have the mature sightseeing buses and services of Wanfenglin, and it is not ideal for travelers who want an easy, comfortable visit.

Tip:With older visitors, children, or anyone who does not want rough paths, stay near the outer viewpoints and avoid entering grass-covered paths.
3

Wear long pants and shoes with grip, and bring water

Notes repeatedly mention uneven paths, more grass, and weak supplies. Even if open, prepare as for light outdoor walking: long pants, shoes with grip, water, simple food, and insect protection.

Tip:Do not wear skirts, sandals, or flip-flops deep into the stone forest. Coming back safely matters more than the photo.
4

Pair it with nearby Nidang Town stops

If it is open and the timing works, pair it with Nidang Town or He Yingqin Former Residence nearby. A normal visit can take 1.5-3 hours. It should not be a main attraction for a first Xingyi trip.

Tip:For a first Xingyi visit, Wanfenglin, Maling River Canyon, and Wanfeng Lake still come first. Nidang Stone Forest is a niche add-on.
Highlights
  • Nidang Stone Forest is one of Xingyi's more raw stone-forest landscapes, with a wilder feel than mature scenic areas.
  • It has fewer visitors and less development, useful for travelers who like quiet geological scenery and photography.
  • Some stone peaks have strong shapes, good for close compositions and human silhouettes.
  • It adds another layer to Xingyi's karst landscape beyond peak forests and canyons.
  • It makes more sense when paired with nearby Nidang Town stops than as a standalone round trip.
Insider Tips

The current opening status is not stable enough, so do not make it an irreplaceable part of the itinerary.

Avoid entering grass, loose stone paths, or unmaintained trails during or after rain.

Supplies are weak, so bring water and simple food.

Do not climb sharp stone peaks for photos. Limestone cuts and slips are both real problems.

If the site looks poorly maintained or unmanaged on arrival, shorten the visit instead of pushing deep inside.
