Choose the wharf first, then ask about boat type and route
Common boarding areas include Hongchun Wharf and the scenic-area tourist wharf. Wharf, boat type, and route can differ. Before buying, ask whether it is a large boat, small boat, or speedboat, whether the route passes Jilong Castle, the Little Three Gorges, and water stone-forest scenery, and how long it takes.
Tip:Do not choose only by the lowest price. Boat type, departure reliability, and whether the boat waits for enough passengers all affect the experience.

Allow 1.5-2 hours on the water
Cruise notes commonly mention about 90 minutes, but actual time depends on route, boat type, passenger numbers, and weather. Including parking, ticketing, waiting, boarding, and disembarking, keep at least 2-3 hours.
Tip:If you still need to catch a train, flight, or long-distance transfer later, do not put the cruise at the very end of the day.

Take the boat in the morning if possible
Morning usually gives better light, cooler temperatures, and a smoother waiting experience. Afternoons can be hotter and easier to squeeze. Ticketing pages list some departures such as 9:30, 10:40, 14:00, and 16:00, but the actual schedule depends on the wharf that day.
Tip:Do not treat 16:00 as a guaranteed final boat. Few passengers, poor weather, or same-day dispatch changes can affect departures.

Focus on the lake scale, not just one landmark
The point of the cruise is seeing the peak forests, lake bays, canyon-like sections, and Jilong Castle from the water. After photographing Jilong Castle, watch the shorelines and turning sections of the route.
Tip:If you only want one Jilong Castle photo, you may not need the full cruise. If you want to understand Wanfeng Lake, the boat gives the fuller experience.
