Reserve ahead and go earlier in the day

Yan'an Revolutionary Memorial Hall is free, but real-name reservation is required. Plan it for the morning or early afternoon, and do not arrive close to last entry.

Use the square and entrance hall for context

Start with the square, the Mao Zedong statue, and the entrance hall before entering the main exhibition.

Follow the main exhibition in order

The main exhibition explains the thirteen years when the CPC Central Committee was based in Yan'an. Allow 2-3 hours if you want to understand the photos, documents, objects, sculptures, and recreated scenes.

Use a guide or audio support if needed

If you are not familiar with modern Chinese history, consider a guide, an audio guide, or at least the introductory panels at the start of each section.

Continue to Wangjiaping afterward

The memorial hall is very close to Wangjiaping Revolutionary Site. The memorial hall gives the wider historical narrative, while Wangjiaping gives the original-site setting, so the two work best together.
