Visit Wangjiaping after the memorial hall
Wangjiaping works best after Yan'an Revolutionary Memorial Hall and usually needs about 1-2 hours. It is an original-site visit, not a large museum.
Read the site through the north and south courtyards
Do not only follow photo spots. Try to understand the south and north courtyards separately: one side is more connected with public, political, and organizational spaces, while the other is more connected with headquarters work and former residences.
Focus on the Military Commission Auditorium and main residences
Spend time at the Military Commission Auditorium, Mao Zedong's former residence, the Central Military Commission work spaces, and the former residences of Zhu De, Peng Dehuai, Ye Jianying, and other leaders.
Use a guide or read the signs carefully
Wangjiaping's houses and cave dwellings look modest, and it is easy to move through too quickly without context.
Decide afterward whether to continue the former-site route
If you have more time, continue to Yangjialing or Zaoyuan. If your day is limited, Wangjiaping plus the memorial hall already forms a complete core city route.
