Plan at a glance

Make Longhu Pavilion your main destination

Fangchuan Scenic Area is in Fangchuan Village, Jingxin Town, Hunchun. Its main viewpoint is Longhu Pavilion, overlooking the lower Tumen River, the border landscape and towns along the river. Fangchuan Village, Yangguanping Causeway, Quanhe Port and the border sentry posts are separate places outside the scenic area, each with its own location and access rules. They are not automatically included in a Longhu Pavilion ticket or shuttle route.

Check hours and prices for your date

A peak-season notice from the operator in April 2026 listed online ticket sales from 08:00 to 16:00, window sales from 08:00 to 16:30, and a 17:30 closing time for Longhu Pavilion. It did not give autumn hours, so check the current schedule before an October visit. There is no consistent official price listing: a 2023 provincial list of cultural-tourism benefits showed admission at CNY 80, while another listing showed CNY 70 plus CNY 7 for the shuttle. Neither should be treated as today's price.

Leave enough time for this out-of-town trip

The drive from Hunchun city to Fangchuan and back takes a substantial part of the day. A local tourism route estimates about 78 km and 1 hour 10 minutes one way by car, excluding stops, traffic and access controls along the way. If you need to catch a high-speed train the same day, first confirm direct transport and the last return departure, then book your connection with enough time between trips.

Tickets and visit details

Choose your visit

The Longhu Pavilion viewpoint and exhibitions

Going up the pavilion is the central experience. Exhibitions cover Hunchun's history and Wu Dacheng's work to re-survey the border. From the viewing platform, you can look over the Tumen River and surrounding border terrain. Allow more time for the platform if the landscape is your priority, or visit the exhibition halls at a slower pace if you are interested in modern border history. Fog and low cloud can obscure the view; visibility of nearby towns or the Sea of Japan is not guaranteed.

Wu Dacheng Memorial Plaza and the border boardwalk

Wu Dacheng Memorial Plaza, the trilateral border boardwalk and Longhu Pavilion are separate stops along the route. There is no confirmed fixed bus service that links them in order. The boardwalk can extend your walk, but use only entrances and sections marked open on site. The “土” marker and Boundary Marker 423 are border landmarks; do not leave the open path or look for an unofficial way in.

The glass walkway and other stops

Before setting out, confirm whether the glass walkway is open, where to enter and whether it connects with the boardwalk. Yangguanping Causeway, Quanhe Port and Fangchuan Village can be considered as separate stops along the way. Whether you can get out, stay or enter depends on the actual route and on-site controls.

Who may enjoy this visit

If you are interested in border geography, Tumen River scenery or Hunchun's modern history, set aside half a day for Longhu Pavilion, the drive and the visit. If you want to explore the village, wetlands or other places along the route, arrange a chartered car or a sightseeing service with confirmed stops. A short visit to the pavilion is not a day tour of the wider Fangchuan area.

Build your day

Short Longhu Pavilion visit | allow about 1.5–2 hours

From the scenic-area entrance, take the shuttle to Longhu Pavilion as directed. Visit the exhibitions first, then go to the viewing platform to look across the river and identify the landscape before returning the same way to the shuttle stop and entrance. Allow about 1.5–2 hours for the visit itself. This estimate excludes the drive to and from Hunchun, queues, security checks and waits for a shuttle; elevator lines inside the pavilion can add time.

Longer visit with a walk | allow about 2–3 hours

After seeing the exhibitions and viewpoint, add the boardwalk or glass walkway only if it is open that day and its entrance and exit are clear. Return to the shuttle stop before leaving. Leave enough time for the return trip, and do not leave fences, paths or designated visitor areas to reach a boundary marker. The 2–3 hour estimate covers the visit, not travel to and from Hunchun.

Plan a separate half-day for stops along the way

If you want to visit Wu Dacheng Memorial Plaza, Fangchuan Village or other places along the route, confirm in advance whether your sightseeing vehicle stops there, how long it waits and whether there is an extra charge. A weekend birdwatching shuttle operated in spring 2026; that does not establish that the same service runs in autumn. Longhu Pavilion, the port, the village and the wetlands require separate transport and should not be planned as one continuous walk.

Get there

Transfer from Hunchun Railway Station

Take a high-speed train from Yanji West Railway Station to Hunchun Railway Station, then transfer to tourist transport bound for Fangchuan. Direct tourist services to the scenic area have operated before; check the service date, boarding point, reservation requirements, fare and last return trip for your travel day. You can call Fangchuan Scenic Area at 0433-7536172 or Longhu Pavilion at 13704430307 to ask whether the route is running and to confirm that the numbers are still active.

Driving and parking

Longhu Pavilion is about 78 km from Hunchun city. An official route estimates a drive of about 1 hour 10 minutes, but rain, fog, stops and traffic controls can make it longer. Set your destination to Fangchuan Scenic Area or its entrance, then follow signs for parking and transfers. Confirm the parking location, fee, available spaces and walking distance to the shuttle stop with the scenic area before leaving.

Return travel and meals

If you need to catch a train from Hunchun, confirm the return service with the scenic area or arrange a chartered car in advance. Do not add a longer boardwalk or village visit until your return transport is settled. There are places to eat along the route; contact them about opening hours and reservations on the day. You can also eat in Hunchun, allowing time for the drive back.

Know before you go

Foreign visitors and access near the border

There is no clear local confirmation of the entry rules for foreign passport holders at the Longhu Pavilion core area. The “Easternmost Sentry Post” (东方第一哨) explicitly does not admit foreign nationals or overseas Chinese; this restriction applies to that sentry post only and does not establish the rules for Longhu Pavilion. If you will use a non-Chinese identity document, ask the scenic area before departure whether you can enter the Longhu Pavilion ticketed area, where documents are checked and what restrictions apply at each stop. Until you receive an answer, do not assume the itinerary is confirmed as accessible.

Weather, queues and walking conditions

Fog, rain and low cloud can obscure distant views. “See three countries at a glance” describes the geography; it does not guarantee that you can make out towns in all three countries or see the Sea of Japan on the day. Elevators and viewing areas can have queues in peak season, and waiting times vary with visitor numbers. Contact the scenic area in advance about open paths, stairs, accessible routes and elevator service. Visitors with limited mobility or children should ask about the day's route.

Construction and mobile service

A 2026 scenic-area upgrade tender included work on the outdoor platform and existing buildings, with a target completion date of September 30. A target date does not confirm that the work is complete. Check barriers and the visitor map on arrival; if the outdoor platform is a priority, confirm that it is open before setting out. Near the border, a phone may connect to a foreign network or display a different time zone. Set your device to Beijing time before departure, and keep a way to access maps and contact your driver.
