Plan at a glance

Forest trails and views over Yanji

The park is on Yanlong Road in southern Yanji, and its main peak is about 517 metres above sea level. Boardwalks and forest trails climb to viewpoints over the city. Search for “Yanji Maoershan National Forest Park” in your map app to avoid the similarly named park in another part of China.

Admission and access

Climbing is free and no reservation is required; attraction listings show the park as open all day. Hailan Pearl Tower and Chinese Korean Folk Park have separate tickets. Roads may close temporarily for maintenance or events, so read the notices at the entrance. Night lighting, patrols and access to every trail are not guaranteed; plan to complete the return walk in daylight.

Choose your visit

Boardwalks and forest trails

After trail improvements, the park has wooden boardwalks and forest paths. Choose a boardwalk for a slower walk through the trees; surfaces can be slippery after rain or in icy conditions. Flower displays vary by season, so check current blooms and trail access before making a special trip to see them.

Views from the summit

On a clear day, the main peak looks out over Yanji, the Buerhatong River and the Hailan River plain. Check on site whether the summit viewing platform is open; it is separate from Hailan Pearl Tower, which is independently operated. A clear daytime visit offers the best chance of seeing the river valley and fields.

Choose a route that suits you

The uphill boardwalk takes about 30–40 minutes, while the steeper stone steps take about 25 minutes; both are one-way estimates, excluding the descent and time spent at the top. The steps are harder on the knees. If you are travelling with children or have knee or leg discomfort, choose a gentle route that is open that day and turn back if you feel unwell.

Seasonal landscapes

The forest paths and seasonal flower areas suit a slower walk. Flowers change through the year, so their timing cannot be predicted by a fixed date.

Build your day

Daytime summit walk | allow about 2 hours

Enter from the Yanlong Road trailhead at the foot of the hill, check the route signs, and take an open boardwalk or stone-step trail to the main peak. Return on an open trail to the entrance or the park terminus. A provincial tourism itinerary suggests about 2 hours for the park; use that as a budget for the return walk, rest and viewing. If a route is closed or crowded, follow the on-site directions.

Choosing between the gentle route and stone steps

For a slower climb, take the boardwalk and return the same way; the steeper steps suit visitors comfortable with a sharper climb. If the signs do not mark a loop, descend by the route you came up. The uphill times do not include the return, and conditions and stops affect the total visit time.

Water and rest

Bring drinking water and a small snack before entering; do not rely on finding supplies on the trail. Take your wrappers and rubbish with you when you leave a rest stop. Chinese Korean Folk Park and the forest park are in the same southern Yanji area, but have separate entrances, activities and tickets.

Get there

Navigate to the Yanlong Road trailhead

The map address is Yanlong Road, Yanji; the usual hiking entrance is at the foot of the hill. Search for “Yanji Maoershan National Forest Park” or “延吉帽儿山国家森林公园”; Maoershan Shanquanlu (帽儿山山泉路) is a bus stop, not the summit entrance.

Free shuttle service

A free shuttle route was announced on July 3, 2026, between the scenic area’s south parking lot and Maoershan National Forest Park. The outbound service starts at the south parking lot and stops at Yanji Dinosaur Kingdom, Yanji Dinosaur Museum, Chinese Korean Folk Park (Yanlong Road) and other stops; the published first and last departures are 08:30 and 17:30. The return service starts at the park terminus, with published first and last departures at 08:50 and 17:50; you can get off at Chinese Korean Folk Park and other stops along the way. Intervals change with passenger numbers. Check on the day whether the service is running and confirm its last departure.

City buses, taxis and parking

Map listings show buses 21, 43 and B16 stopping at Maoershan Shanquanlu (帽儿山山泉路); check current routes and stops locally. For the hiking entrance, take a taxi to the park’s Yanlong Road entrance and confirm the drop-off point with the driver. Recent parking fees and space availability are unclear; check the posted signs.

Visit the folk park on the same day

Chinese Korean Folk Park and the forest park can be visited on the same day, but you need to travel between them and buy separate tickets. The shuttle stops at Chinese Korean Folk Park on Yanlong Road. Plan the order around each site’s last-entry time and the shuttle’s last departure.

Know before you go

Last shuttle and sunset

The published last return shuttle leaves from the Maoershan National Forest Park terminus at 17:50. Descend in time to reach the terminus before it leaves. Watching the sunset extends your visit; if you have not confirmed the last shuttle and night-time trail conditions, plan a daytime climb.

Rain, snow, insects and fire safety

Wooden boardwalks and stone steps can be slippery after rain; wear shoes with good grip and descend carefully. In winter, follow on-site instructions if ice or a road closure affects the route. In warmer months, bring insect repellent. Fires are prohibited in the forest, and visitors must stay on open trails.

Fitness, children and mobility access

The visit involves walking uphill and downhill; older visitors, children and anyone with knee or leg discomfort can turn back along the route. Accessible routes and rescue-point locations are not confirmed. If you need mobility assistance, ask park staff which sections are accessible.

Check before setting out

Check whether the shuttle is running, which trails are open, the weather and the last departure. Bring water, a fully charged phone and shoes with good grip. If you also plan to visit Hailan Pearl Tower, check its hours, ticket price and entry arrangements separately.
