Plan at a glance

Enter the main scenic area through Liubaomen

Liudingshan Cultural Tourism Area is south of Dunhua. A commonly used navigation address is 1859 Yanjiang Road, and the main entrance is Liubaomen (六宝门, or Six Treasures Gate). The core visitor area covers about 10 square kilometres, with Buddhist, Bohai and Qing ancestral-culture districts spread across it. You will need to walk or take the scenic shuttle between sites; this is not a compact temple compound.

Check opening hours and prices for your date

Ctrip currently lists opening hours of 08:00–17:00, with last entry at 16:00. Before setting out, contact the scenic area to confirm that these hours apply on your date and ask about the last shuttle. Check admission, shuttle fares and package tickets separately, including what each covers. Do not base your budget on an older combined price of about CNY 110.

Choose your visit

The Qing ancestral shrine and Bohai history

The Qing Ancestral Shrine and Qing Founders' Cultural Park introduce the site's account of Manchu history. On another side of the scenic area, the Liudingshan tomb complex is associated with the early royal history of the Bohai Kingdom. Provincial information confirms preservation and environmental improvement work at the tomb complex, but the areas open to visitors in either site can change. Check the day's map and on-site notices.

Zhengjue Temple and Buddhist art

Zhengjue Temple is the main temple complex in the park. The Buddhist Culture and Art Museum is located inside the base of the Golden Summit Great Buddha. Visit both if you are interested in religious architecture or Buddhist sculpture; check which exhibition areas, guided talks and paid services are available on site.

The Golden Summit Great Buddha and Prajna Stairway

The Golden Summit Great Buddha is one of the area's main landmarks, and the Prajna Stairway leads up to the Buddha. Seeing it up close involves a steep walk. If you have limited stamina, stay around the temple or view the statue from another point in the park.

Shenglian Pond, the literature museum and the tomb complex

Shenglian Pond and the lakeside path make for a gentler walk; flowering conditions depend on the season and weather. Zhang Xiaotian Literature Museum and the Liudingshan tomb complex may appeal to visitors interested in local literature or Bohai history. Check that they are open and confirm the scenic shuttle stops; a short route may not pass them.

Build your day

Core route | allow about 2–3 hours

Enter through Liubaomen and take the shuttle towards the Qing Founders' Cultural Hall. After your visit, transfer according to that day's route to Zhengjue Temple, then follow the Prajna Stairway up to the Golden Summit Great Buddha area. Return to the shuttle stop as directed and ride back to the exit. Allow about 2–3 hours, excluding long queues or temporary service interruptions. If the stairs are too demanding, shorten the visit around Zhengjue Temple; you do not need to climb to the top.

Longer route | allow about 4–5 hours

Start at the Qing Ancestral Shrine, then visit Zhengjue Temple and the Golden Summit Great Buddha. After coming back down, continue to the Shenglian Pond loop. If time allows, add Zhang Xiaotian Literature Museum or the tomb complex, after confirming access and return shuttle service. The districts are spread out; names that look close together on a map do not necessarily connect by a continuous walk.

Confirm the ride back to Liubaomen before leaving

Shuttle buses may run from the Qing Founders' Cultural Hall or Zhengjue Temple towards the exit. Before you get off, confirm the stop and direction for Liubaomen and the last departure. If you stop at Shenglian Pond or another area, ask whether there is a direct bus back. Plan backwards from the day's last entry time.

Get there

From Dunhua Railway Station

A direct shuttle from Dunhua Railway Station operated during the 2026 summer season through August 31. Do not rely on it for an autumn or winter trip. Check the day's transfer notice after arriving in Dunhua; if no direct service is running, arrange a taxi or ride-hailing car.

City bus, driving and parking

City bus 8 goes to the “Liudingshan” stop; check live transit information for its current frequency before setting out. If driving, set “Liudingshan Cultural Tourism Area Liubaomen (六宝门)” as your destination. Parking is currently listed as free, but confirm space and entrance arrangements from on-site signs, especially on holidays. For visitor information, call 0433-6688330; for ticket enquiries, call 0433-6686110.

Know before you go

The shuttle does not eliminate the stair climb

The Prajna Stairway has about 480 steps, and reaching the Golden Summit Great Buddha on foot requires a substantial climb. The scenic shuttle connects different parts of the area but does not remove the need to use the stairway on this route. Wear shoes with good grip. If you need step-free access or an alternative viewpoint, contact the scenic area in advance to check what is available. Visitors over 65, students and visitors aged 60–65 should check the day's discount rules before buying tickets; confirm shuttle charges on the ticket.

Reservations, ID and temple etiquette

Make a real-name reservation as required and bring the ID used to book. If you hold a foreign passport, contact the scenic area in advance to confirm the reservation process and ticket check requirements. Keep quiet inside the temple. Follow posted guidance when entering halls, photographing Buddha statues or taking part in religious activities. Check that day's notice for chanting schedules rather than planning around a regular performance.

Make separate plans for food and nearby attractions

There are places to eat and shop inside the scenic area; check on-site notices for open locations and hours. Zhongcheng Korean Ethnic Folk Village and Bohai Lake Park are outside the scenic area. Visiting them requires separate transport and time for meals.
