How to Visit
1

Treat it as an open street district

Nanxi Old Street is not a closed ancient town. It is more like an open commercial and cultural street area. Walk both sides of Guixi River, look at the Ming- and Qing-style buildings, and stop for tea or snacks.

Tip:You do not need a ticket or a strict scenic-area route here.
2

Separate Nanxi Old Street from the older Nanxi city area

Nanxi Old Street is a recently developed cultural street district. Nanxi old city, the old city wall, and Wenming Gate are more historic relics. If you have time, combine them; if time is short, do not treat them as the same place.

Tip:Be specific when navigating or taking a taxi, or you may end up in a different part of Nanxi.
3

Arrive around dusk

Daytime is better for the street, river, bridges, and exhibition spaces. After dusk, lanterns and reflections on the water become more interesting. Dinner can also fit here or in the nearby older city area.

Tip:Good night scenery does not mean every exhibition hall or shop stays open late. Visit indoor displays earlier.
4

Use snacks to connect the walk

Nanxi dried tofu is the most recognizable local flavor here. Try old shops, tofu pudding, noodles, or local home-style dishes as you walk.

Tip:Do not travel a long distance only for this one street. It works better when combined with Nanxi old city, the riverside, or nearby stops.
Highlights
  • Nanxi Old Street is good for an easy citywalk, with streets, river channels, bridges, lanterns, and local snacks.
  • The covered bridges, pavilions, and waterside paths along Guixi River are more worth walking than just one main street.
  • Nanxi dried tofu is the most representative local specialty and works well as a snack or souvenir.
  • If you also see Wenming Gate, the old city wall, and the older Nanxi area, the visit feels more complete.
  • Late afternoon into evening is better than midday for photos and dinner.
Insider Tips

The old street is free and open all day, but exhibition halls, shops, and restaurants keep their own hours.

If you expect a very original ancient town, Nanxi Old Street may feel commercial and new. Treat it as a leisure street district instead.

Weekend evenings can be crowded, so avoid peak times for photos and dinner.

Count the travel time from central Yibin. This is not a small lane in the city center.

There are many dried tofu shops. Taste a small amount first before buying a large pack.
