How to Visit
1

Arrive around dusk

Hejiangmen works best from late afternoon into evening. In daylight, you can see the Jinsha River and Min River meet here to form the Yangtze River. After dark, the riverbanks and old-city lights become the main view.

Tip:If you only come by day, you miss the night view. If you only come at night, the river-color contrast is harder to see.
2

Treat it as an old-city walking stop

Hejiangmen itself does not need a complex route. Combine it on foot with Guanying Street, East Street, and Daguan Pavilion. See the riverside first, then return to the old city for food.

Tip:Parking in the old city is tight, especially during holidays, so driving into the core area is usually not worth it.
3

Separate the square from the cruise

The Hejiangmen riverside, square, and walking paths are free to visit. The Three Rivers night cruise is a separate paid activity and usually departs from around Hejiangmen Pier.

Tip:If you want the cruise, check the same-day sailing time before going. Do not rely on buying a ticket after randomly arriving at the river.
4

Choose your viewpoint

For close views, use Hejiangmen and Yangtze River Landmark Square. For a fuller night skyline, look for a viewpoint across the river or from higher ground.

Tip:During holidays, the square can be crowded, so leave extra patience for photos and lighting.
Highlights
  • Hejiangmen’s core value is the meeting of three rivers and Yibin’s identity as the First City on the Yangtze.
  • Daytime river views and nighttime lights feel different, so dusk is the most efficient time.
  • The riverside walk is good for a short stop and does not need to be treated like a heavy scenic-area visit.
  • Guanying Street, East Street, and Daguan Pavilion are nearby, making this a good old-city half-day walking route.
  • The Three Rivers night cruise is useful if you want city lights from the water, but it is not part of the free square visit.
Insider Tips

Do not force a self-driving visit into the old city. Taxi, bus, or walking is usually easier.

For the river-color boundary, go in daylight and clear weather.

The riverside can be windier than the streets, so bring a light layer in spring, autumn, or winter.

If Hejiangmen Square is too crowded during holidays, move across the river or to nearby higher ground for the wider night view.

Hejiangmen fits best before or after dinner and does not need half a day on its own.
