The Yuan-dynasty hoard and its discovery
Construction work south of Gao'an uncovered a Yuan-dynasty hoard in 1980. The hoard contains 245 objects including fragments, among them 19 blue-and-white pieces and four underglaze-red pieces. The exhibition explains the discovery, the uses of the vessels and the background of the buried collection.
The second-floor Yuan blue-and-white gallery
The “Sealed Treasures: Gao'an Yuan-Dynasty Hoard Ceramics” exhibition is in the second-floor Yuan Blue-and-White Gallery. Compare animal-ear ring-handled lidded jars, covered meiping vases and stem cups. Look for the ink characters on a meiping lid and base referring to rites, music, writing, numbers, archery and charioteering. The museum interprets them as object numbers connected with the hoard owner's ritual and musical culture. Use the labels for the exact object names and materials.
Underglaze red and other hoard ceramics
The hoard also includes underglaze red, egg-white glaze, qingbai ware and Longquan celadon. The displays explain the vessels' uses and techniques. Individual objects may change because of conservation or case rotation; ask whether a particular piece is on display that day.
Build your day
Yuan blue-and-white priority route | about 1 hour
After entry checks, follow the guide to the second-floor Yuan Blue-and-White Gallery. Start with the discovery background in “Sealed Treasures”, then compare the lidded jars, meiping vases and stem cups in case order. Continue to the underglaze-red and other hoard ceramics. Follow the gallery's rules for stopping, visitor limits and photography.
Complete museum route | about 1.5–2 hours
Check the floor guide at the service desk. Read the Gao'an history or hoard-background panels first, go upstairs to the Yuan-dynasty hoard exhibition, then visit other permanent displays that are open. If you book a guided tour, follow the guide's sequence and adjust the order accordingly.
Half-day in Gao'an city
The museum can be the start or end of a Gao'an cultural itinerary. If you also want to visit Ruizhou Prefecture Office or Daguan Tower, allow separate time for the actual walking or driving distance. Check the vehicle back to Gao'an Station after leaving so the museum visit does not run into closing time.
Get there
Gao'an High-Speed Railway Station and city buses
From Gao'an High-Speed Railway Station, take Route 8 into the city; within the city, Route 5 can reach the museum. Bus stops and schedules may change, so check the service for your travel date and confirm where to get off. A taxi or ride-hailing vehicle can take you directly to 674 Ruiyang Avenue.
Parking and return
The complex has a parking area; search for “Gao'an Museum” when driving. Holiday spaces and entrance management follow the on-site signs. From Nanchang or another Yichun urban area, calculate the intercity travel time separately and check the return service from Gao'an Station and the last city bus.
