Ancient-city streets and time
Wanzai Ancient City is on Yanhe West Road in Wanzai County, Yichun. The usual entrance is the South Gate. The public street area can be entered throughout the day; allow one to two hours for the old streets and ancestral-hall group, or three to four hours if you add exhibitions, xiabu activities and a meal. Travel from central Yichun to Wanzai County requires a separate vehicle.
Free area and paid venues
The ancient-city streets are free. Some indoor venues, including the History and Culture Museum and Ancestral Hall Culture Museum, plus intangible-heritage activities, have separate tickets. Some venues offer package tickets around CNY 70–80, with the contents and day's ticketing rules varying by venue. Check the open-venue list at the ticket counter before choosing a package.

Ancestral halls and lanes
The ancient city is organised around Gan-style ancestral halls and old lanes. Guo Clan Ancestral Hall and Lüyin Ancestral Hall are useful priorities. The city has 27 ancestral halls, each with its own opening arrangement; in the areas that are open, look for wood carving, brick carving and the layout of the main halls.
Xiabu and local performances
Wanzai xiabu weaving, Kaikou Nuo (开口傩) and Desheng Drum (得胜鼓) are local intangible-heritage practices. Some appear as hands-on activities or performances according to the day's programme. Ask whether the xiabu activity is running and whether it has a separate charge. The commercial street is a place to have tea, see craft demonstrations and connect with a listed performance.
Wall art, lanes and tea
The “Zanhua Girl (簪花少女)” mural near the visitor centre is a daytime photo stop. Blue-stone lanes, yellow-brick walls and horse-head walls create the old-city streetscape. Congquan Tea House (从泉茶馆) serves a large bowl of tea for about CNY 3; refills and opening hours follow the shop's notice for the day.
Saturday fireworks
Fireworks may be scheduled on Saturday evenings or public holidays, which suits visitors willing to stay for a night programme. Whether they run and the exact show time follow the notice for the date of your visit; do not make the return journey depend on the fireworks.
Build your day
Old streets and ancestral halls short route | about 1–2 hours
Enter through the South Gate, follow the old street to the “Zanhua Girl (簪花少女)” mural, then visit Guo Clan Ancestral Hall and Lüyin Ancestral Hall. If Congquan Tea House (从泉茶馆) is open, stop for tea before returning along the street to the South Gate. The public streets remain walkable even when paid venues are closed.
Exhibitions, heritage and evening programme | about 3–4 hours
In the morning, visit the open ancestral halls and history-and-culture venues, then eat in Wanzai County. In the afternoon, try xiabu weaving or browse the old street. Stay for fireworks only if the date's activity notice confirms them. After the daytime visit, eat in the county centre before returning to the ancient city for the night programme; after it ends, leave through the South Gate using a pre-arranged vehicle or stay in Wanzai.
Get there
From central Yichun to Wanzai County
From central Yichun, use an intercity coach, taxi or private car to reach Wanzai; check the departure point and service for your travel date. Wanzai Ancient City is on Yanhe West Road. The outward trip, post-show return and possible overnight stay need separate planning. If you want the night programme, reserve the return vehicle or a county hotel in advance.
South Gate and parking
Navigate to “Wanzai Ancient City” or the South Gate. A large free car park is nearby. Holiday night crowds can concentrate around the entrance, so note where the car is parked and allow time to walk back and exit after the programme.
Know before you go
Venue hours and prices
The public lanes can be visited throughout the day. Paid venues usually open from 08:00 to 17:30; some indoor venues close on Mondays, and holiday hours may differ. Package prices depend on the venues included, and not every indoor activity is covered by one ticket.
Fireworks and returning
Fireworks are a night activity. Whether they run, the exact performance time and the safety arrangements follow the notice for your travel date. Arrange a ride in advance or stay in the county centre.
Food and the wild cave
Local options include Wanzai duorou (万载剁肉), a chopped-pork dish, and Luocheng zhafen (罗城扎粉); Congquan Tea House (从泉茶馆) can be a rest stop. Menus and hours change. Nearby Yangpidong Cave (羊皮洞) has no lighting and is a wild cave, so it is not a casual add-on. Do not use its stream as a substitute for a managed water recreation area.
