Entrance, scope and time
Mingyue Mountain is in Wentang Town, Yuanzhou District, Yichun. The usual entrance is the Mingyue Mountain Visitor Centre. The visit extends from the lower cable-car station to high trails, a cave and a lake area. Allow about four hours for the core summit sights; add more time if you include Yungu Waterfall or a full hiking approach.
Tickets and transport add-ons
The scenic-area admission ticket is CNY 95 per person. The cable cars, lower and upper sightseeing buses, and mountain slide are charged separately. Reference prices are CNY 80 uphill, CNY 70 downhill or CNY 150 return for the cable car; the lower sightseeing bus is CNY 10 one way, the upper bus CNY 15, and the slide CNY 40. Recheck the prices for your travel date. The admission ticket does not include these transport services.

Choose your visit
Qingyun Cliffside Walk, Xingyue Cave and Moon Lake
The Qingyun Cliffside Walk is about 3.1 km long and runs through the mountain-cliff area above 1,500 metres. It is the main summit trail, with a glass viewing platform along the way. Clear weather gives wider views, while wind and rain reduce visibility and make the trail more slippery.
Xingyue Cave is a natural cave and Moon Lake is a high mountain lake surrounded by dawn redwoods (Metasequoia). A practical summit sequence is Xingyue Cave, the Qingyun Cliffside Walk and Moon Lake. The viewing platform and lake shore are good places to stop for photographs, although mist can shorten the view.
Yungu Waterfall and fitness options
Yungu Waterfall is a series of cascades on the downhill route. It suits visitors who want to combine the summit with forest and water scenery in one day. Use the cable car and sightseeing buses for a lighter visit; continuous uphill hiking is better for people who are used to long ascents and descents.
For the separate paid hot-spring resort, see Mingyue Mountain Tianmu Hot Spring Resort.
For the ticketed evening show and theme park, see Mingyue Songcheng Park.
Build your day
Summit highlights short route | about 4 hours
Walk about 15 minutes from the visitor centre to the lower cable-car station. Ride up, transfer to the upper sightseeing bus, and visit Xingyue Cave, the Qingyun Cliffside Walk and Moon Lake in that order. Return to the upper cable-car station and ride down. This route reduces climbing and concentrates the visit on the summit.
Summit plus Yungu Waterfall | about 5–6 hours
Ride the cable car from the visitor centre, take the upper sightseeing bus to Xingyue Cave, then walk the Qingyun Cliffside Walk and Moon Lake. Return to the cable-car station, take the cable car to the middle station, and follow the downhill trail to Yungu Waterfall before using the slide to descend. The slide is charged separately and may stop operating. If it is closed, follow the scenic area's downhill transport instructions rather than relying on the slide as the only way back.
Uphill hiking route | about 3 hours uphill
Follow the hiking trail uphill for about three hours. At the summit, choose Xingyue Cave, the Qingyun Cliffside Walk and Moon Lake according to your energy, then take the cable car down. The three-hour estimate covers the ascent only; add time for the summit and for returning to the cable-car station.
Get there
From Yichun Railway Station, the airport and the scenic area
From Yichun Railway Station, take a bus towards Wentang. Route 113 runs directly to Wentang and takes about 30 minutes; Route 115 passes through the urban area and takes longer. After getting off, follow the day's stop information and scenic-area signs to the visitor centre, and check the return service before setting out.
A taxi from Yichun Mingyueshan Airport to the scenic area takes about 50 minutes. Drivers can navigate to “Mingyue Mountain National Scenic Area Parking Lot” or “Mingyue Mountain Visitor Centre Parking Lot”. Parking is CNY 10 per day, and charging points are available.
Know before you go
Opening, cable cars and weather
Opening hours vary by season: summer 07:30–16:30 and winter 08:00–16:00. The last cable-car service is 17:30 in summer and 17:00 in winter. These are not a start time for climbing; even a short route needs time to return to the cable-car station.
The summit is about 5–10°C cooler than the foot of the mountain and can be windy. Bring a light windproof layer and wear shoes with good grip. Trails may be slippery after rain. A sea of clouds depends entirely on weather conditions. Early mornings after rain may offer a better chance, but it is never guaranteed.
Fees, food and a cross-county option
From 1 May through 31 December 2026, primary, secondary and university students from anywhere may enter the Mingyue Mountain scenic area without the main admission fee by presenting a student card, identity card or household register. Cable cars, sightseeing buses and the slide are excluded. After this period, follow the new policy for your travel date.
Supplies on the mountain are limited, so bring water and a small snack before climbing. Return to Wentang for food after the visit; simple options include pork-bone noodle soup and beef rice noodles. Yangshimu is in Ji'an and should be planned as a separate cross-county trip, with its own ticket, train schedule and entrance arrangements.
