Plan at a glance
Mountain, temple and entrance
Baizhang Mountain and Baizhang Chan Temple are in Baizhangshan Town, Fengxin County, Yichun. The usual entrance is the temple gate. The temple, Tianxia Qinggui inscription and historic remains are in the same mountain area; nearby waterfall attractions have separate entrances and tickets. Plan the temple and rear-mountain historic sites together, while Baxian Waterfall Pool is a separate paid stop.
Scope and time
The temple axis works as a short visit. Add the rear-mountain inscription and Ancestral Master Pagoda on foot and allow about two to three hours. The natural trails depend on the day's conditions. Baxian Waterfall Pool adds driving time, a separate ticket and more walking.
Tickets and access boundary
The core Baizhang Temple area is usually free. Baxian Waterfall Pool is sold separately, with prices following the information for your travel date. Temple registration, gate checks and the open area of the rear trail follow the instructions at the entrance.

Chan history and temple architecture
Baizhang Chan Temple is known for the history of Chan master Huaihai, who established monastic rules here during the Tang period. The “Baizhang Qinggui”, or Rules of Baizhang, became part of the history of Chan institutions. The present buildings have been restored, with grey brick and white walls arranged around the central halls. This visit suits travellers interested in Chan history and a quiet temple setting.
Tianxia Qinggui inscription and historic remains
The Tianxia Qinggui (天下清规) inscription is on the rear mountain, near the Ancestral Master Pagoda and other historic remains. The inscription is often associated with Liu Gongquan; use the heritage explanation on site for the attribution.
Choose the temple or add a waterfall
For the temple and inscription, keep the visit within Baizhang Mountain. To add a natural stop, drive to Baxian Waterfall Pool or another nearby attraction. The waterfall sites are not connected to the temple by a walking route, and their driving time and tickets are separate.

Build your day
Temple and rear-mountain historic sites | about 2–3 hours
Enter through the Baizhang Temple gate and follow the central axis to the Hall of the Heavenly Kings and the Mahavira Hall. Check whether the rear trail is open. If it is open and the weather is suitable, follow the signs to the Tianxia Qinggui inscription and Ancestral Master Pagoda, then return by the same route. Watch the slopes, steps and last time for going uphill; do not enter an unopened path to save time.
Easier temple route | about 1 hour
Ask at the gate which halls are open, then follow the central axis. Companions who cannot manage the steps can remain in the temple area. Before leaving, confirm the parking position and the return vehicle.
Baizhang Mountain and Baxian Waterfall Pool | one day
Start at Baizhang Temple in the morning and allow two to three hours for the temple and rear mountain. Around lunch, drive to Baxian Waterfall Pool and follow that attraction's opening time and ticket rules. The waterfall site charges separately. If weather changes the temple or mountain road, shorten the second stop and keep time for the drive back.
Get there
From Yichun or Nanchang
Baizhang Temple is in the mountains of Fengxin County and is some distance from Yichun Railway Station. By public transport, first reach Fengxin County town, then arrange a vehicle to the temple gate. Driving reduces transfers. Driving from Nanchang takes about two hours, depending on the starting point, roads and mountain section.
Mountain road and parking
Navigate to “Fengxin Baizhang Temple”. The final roughly 15 km follows a winding mountain road; passengers prone to motion sickness should prepare, and drivers should slow down. There is a parking area in front of the temple; holiday spaces and charges follow the on-site signs. If using a chartered vehicle, agree on the pickup time and place.
Know before you go
Temple entry time
Typical opening hours are around 08:00–17:00, but last entry may be earlier. Do not arrive close to closing time. If you plan to walk the rear mountain, follow the gate's instructions for the day.
Vegetarian meals are not guaranteed
The temple vegetarian meal is generally a midday service, but visitor access and any registration requirement should be checked on arrival. Alternatively, eat in Fengxin County town or at a nearby rural restaurant; spring-water steamed chicken depends on the shop's menu for the day.
Inscription, etiquette and trails
Keep quiet in the temple and follow hall notices. Do not touch offering tables, statues or inscriptions, and do not enter closed areas for photographs or climbing. Rear-mountain steps become slippery after rain; wear grippy shoes and carry water. The Tianxia Qinggui inscription attribution follows the heritage explanation on site.
