Plan at a glance

Confirm that it is Luoding Fengyang Ancient Village

Fengyang Ancient Village, also called Yangtangtou Village, is in Fengyang Village, Sulong Subdistrict, Luoding, Yunfu. Navigate to “Luoding Fengyang Ancient Village” or “Luoding Fengyang Ancient Village Area” rather than entering only “Fengyang Ancient Village”; Fengyangyi in Dali and Fengyang in Anhui are different places.

The village is free and open all day, with no reservation required. The old houses and ancestral hall are easier to visit in daylight, when there is better light and less disruption to residents. Allow about one hour for a quick loop and about two hours for architecture and photography.

A village where people still live

Fengyang is not a fully enclosed museum precinct. Residents still live and work there. The Chen Ancestral Hall, grey-brick walls with ear-shaped gables, old lanes and Lingnan houses are the main sights, but visitors must not enter private homes or touch ritual objects.

Stone paving and narrow lanes slow the walk, so wear comfortable shoes with good grip. Hanfu, modern Chinese clothing and linen outfits work well for photographs, but stay clear of residents’ routes and any ceremonial activity.

The ancestral hall and Lingnan houses

The Chen Ancestral Hall is the central building. It is listed as dating from the second year of the Jiaqing reign of the Qing dynasty, with three bays, two courtyards, a hard-mountain roof and a decorative ridge; its stele record includes construction and repair inscriptions.

More than 30 old houses and seven lanes sit around the ancestral hall. Brick walls, ear-shaped gables, grey decoration, murals and carved beams reward a slower look. The village also retains Longzhou folk-song traditions and spring and autumn ancestral rites; give way if a local ceremony is taking place.

Who it suits

The village suits traditional-architecture photographers, visitors interested in local history, costume photography and quiet countryside walks. It is better for people who can enjoy an uncrowded village without expecting a full commercial visitor route.

With children, watch the stone paving and steps around the hall. Free admission does not mean that every courtyard is open to visitors; children should follow the same rule about not entering homes or touching ritual objects.

Build your day

About one hour: entrance to the ancestral hall

Village gate tower → Chen Ancestral Hall → old lanes → grey-brick walls with ear-shaped gables → return to the village entrance. Confirm your parking location and meeting point before entering, as the lanes can be confusing for first-time visitors.

Morning or late-afternoon light is softer for photographing the gate, old trees and lanes. In strong midday light, use the time to examine architectural details and keep people photography shorter.

About two hours: village and Wenta Tower

Spend about 1.5 hours in Fengyang Ancient Village, then drive about 15 minutes to Luoding Wenta Tower for the climb or the river reflection, followed by a city meal. Wenta Tower has its own entry hours, unlike the all-day village, so confirm the tower schedule before leaving.

This combination is best by car. Parking at the village is limited, so arrive early during holidays. If the entrance area is full, park outside the village near the main road and walk in rather than driving through residential lanes.

About four hours: Luoding heritage half-day

Fengyang Ancient Village → Luoding Confucian Temple (Luoding Academy) → old winery → Riverside Park for sunset. The village works best in daylight, while Wenta Tower and the riverside park can be placed later in the day.

The academy closes at midday, so use the winery or a city meal during 11:30–14:30 and return after the afternoon opening if needed. Changgangpo Aqueduct and Luoding Wind Farm Ridge require separate driving time and should not be treated as casual additions to this half-day route.

Get there

Driving is most practical

Navigate to “Luoding Fengyang Ancient Village Area” or “Fengyang Village”. There is free open parking at the village entrance, but spaces are limited. Confirm the parking area and walking entrance before driving into the village, rather than relying on a place name that may point to another Fengyang.

There is no public transport inside the village, and the lanes are not suitable for through traffic. Park at the entrance or outside the village, complete the visit on foot, and return to the same parking point when leaving.

High-speed rail, coach and taxi

You can travel to Yunfu East Station or Luoding Bus Station and continue by taxi; the listed taxi journey takes about 20–30 minutes. With no public transport within the village, non-drivers should agree on the return pickup and allow for waiting time.

For Luoding Tower, the academy or other city stops, a short taxi ride is more practical than trying to walk from the village. Tell the driver “Luoding Fengyang Ancient Village” and confirm the map destination before setting off.

Know before you go

Respect residents and local customs

People still live in the village. Keep quiet, do not enter private homes, do not touch ritual objects and do not turn an ancestral hall or lane into a blocked photography set. If a spring or autumn ceremony is taking place, keep the passage clear and follow the local arrangement.

The ancestral hall and old houses are easiest to see in daylight. If you only want exterior photographs, the entrance gate, old trees and lanes already provide a complete short visit without staying late and affecting residents’ routines.

Parking, shoes and the name on the map

Free spaces at the entrance are limited, so arrive early during holidays. Stone paving and lane corners can be slippery; wear shoes with good grip and do not climb low walls for a better angle.

The navigation target must say “Luoding Fengyang Ancient Village” or “Luoding Fengyang Ancient Village Area”. Check the destination again on the way back, as Fengyangyi in Dali and Fengyang in Anhui have similar names.
