Deqing Museum is on Chaoyang West Road in Decheng Town, close to Deqing Academy. Allow 30–60 minutes. Its compact size makes it a good first stop before walking to the academy and Sanyuan Pagoda.
The museum opens Tuesday to Sunday, 09:00–17:00, with last entry at 16:30. It is closed on Mondays. Entry is free and no advance reservation is required; register or scan your ID on site. Do not apply the CNY 30 academy ticket to the museum.
The museum has a permanent history and heritage exhibition plus temporary calligraphy and painting displays. Temporary content changes, so use the day’s gallery arrangement as the guide. The main permanent highlights are the Han-period Four-Frog Bronze Drum, the Warring States pottery jar with rice-character patterns and the local-history collection.

Thirty to sixty minutes: focus on the key objects
Follow the second-floor permanent gallery, the Four-Frog Bronze Drum, the Warring States pottery jar with rice-character patterns and the temporary exhibition if open. When time is limited, see the permanent objects first and decide later whether the temporary gallery deserves more time.
The museum is small enough to cover in half an hour to an hour. It works best as one stop on a Deqing county-town history route rather than as a destination requiring a separate long transfer.
Three to four hours: a Deqing half-day history route
Deqing Museum → Deqing Academy → Sanyuan Pagoda → Song Street for wontons or bamboo-pole rice noodles. The museum and academy are a few minutes apart on foot, so no new vehicle is needed between them.
Sanyuan Pagoda has a separate listed ticket of about CNY 10. Check the day’s opening arrangement and your group’s energy before adding the climb at the end of the route.
With children: fewer galleries, better connections
Start with the bronze drum, pottery jar and local-history timeline, then walk to the academy to see the historic structure. If children are tired, use Song Street for a break and lunch rather than circling the small museum again.
Keep quiet inside and do not touch the exhibits. If the temporary gallery is not interesting to children, save the time for the academy’s gates, pond, hall and courtyards.

Quick route: permanent history first
Entrance → moral-model exhibition, if open → permanent history gallery → Four-Frog Bronze Drum → Warring States pottery jar → temporary calligraphy and painting gallery → walk to Deqing Academy. Complete the fixed exhibition first, then decide about the temporary display so the route is less affected by changes in programme.
The Four-Frog Bronze Drum has sun and cloud-thunder patterns on the face and four frogs around the edge. The Warring States pottery jar was used for storing grain or water and has rice-character patterns. Read the dates and uses on the labels rather than treating the two pieces only as decorative shapes.
Half-day route: museum and academy on foot
Deqing Museum → Deqing Academy → lunch on Song Street → Sanyuan Pagoda. The museum gives you the local-history background, and the academy then shows the Song-Yuan timber structure. This is a clear order for a first visit.
If you also want to visit Longmu Temple or Jinlin Water Town, do the county-town sites in the morning and transfer in the afternoon. The museum stops entry at 16:30, so do not leave it until after a long drive.
Adjust around the temporary exhibition
The museum often hosts calligraphy, painting or image exhibitions. They suit visitors interested in local culture and art, but the content is not fixed. Check the exhibition list after entering and decide how much time to give it.
The walk from the museum to the academy is short. Do not return to the car between them unless your next stop is outside the county town; most of the local history route is easier on foot or by a short taxi ride.
Get there
Use the same county-town parking plan as the academy
For driving, navigate to Deqing Museum or Deqing Academy. Nearby parking is convenient, and holidays may include free periods. From Nanjiangkou Railway Station, take a taxi or bus route 10 into the county town. From Deqing Bus Station, take a local bus to Renmin Hospital and walk about 100 metres.
The museum and academy are close, so park once and walk between them. The trip to Yuecheng Longmu Ancestral Temple takes about one hour and needs a different transport plan.
Do the indoor stop before the outdoor section
The museum opens Tuesday to Sunday, 09:00–17:00, with last entry at 16:30. Starting with the museum in the morning leaves the academy and Sanyuan Pagoda for the afternoon and makes it easier to adjust for heat or rain.
Free entry does not mean no documents are needed. Bringing an ID card makes on-site registration easier, especially for a larger group.
Know before you go
Monday closure and 16:30 last entry
The museum is closed on Mondays. Holiday and summer or winter break hours may shift slightly. From Tuesday to Sunday, enter before 16:30; even a 30-minute visit still needs time for registration.
Flash photography is prohibited, and cases and objects cannot be touched. The temporary gallery may have different photography rules, so follow the signs in each room.
Do not carry the academy ticket over to the museum
Deqing Museum is free and does not require a reservation. Deqing Academy is a separate attraction with adult admission listed at CNY 30 and half price for students. They are close together, but their ticketing and opening hours are independent.
The county town has more food options than the mountain sites. Put bamboo-pole rice noodles, Tongjin wontons or Xijiang river food in the Song Street or county-town part of the plan. The museum itself is a short indoor stop and does not require extensive equipment.
