A two-storey historic building beside the Xijiang River
Yuejiang Tower stands on Shitou Hill on Jiangbin East Road in Duanzhou District, facing the Xijiang River to the south. Use “Yuejiang Tower” or “Former Headquarters of Ye Ting Independent Regiment” for navigation. Allow 1–1.5 hours for the visit. Add Gao Yao Academy, the ancient city wall and Qilou Street and you can fill half a day.
The building opens Tuesday to Sunday, 09:00–17:00, with last entry at 16:30. It is closed on Mondays. Entry is free, but reservations are made through the “Former Headquarters of Ye Ting Independent Regiment” mini-program. On quieter days, on-site QR registration may be possible. Bring the original ID card.
Allow time for the building, former headquarters and river view
Yuejiang Tower is a Ming-period courtyard building. The exhibitions also cover the former headquarters of the Ye Ting Independent Regiment and related historical displays. The second-floor riverside terrace, Chuxin Pavilion and Xijiang viewing platform are good stopping points, but the building still has stairs.
The parking lot in front of the building is listed as spacious. Drivers can enter after showing an ID card and reporting the number of people in the car, which is convenient for families with older adults or children.

One hour: architecture and riverside terrace
Gate → reconstructed main-hall scene → second-floor riverside terrace → return. When time is limited, start with the courtyard structure and river view, then decide whether to add the other galleries.
From the second floor you can see the Xijiang River and, in clear weather, look toward Linyang Gorge, Wenming Pagoda and Xunfeng Pagoda. The terrace faces the river, so do not approach the edge for a photograph when the ground is wet or wind is strong.
1.5–2 hours: the full history route
Gate → Chongwen Pavilion and the Kangxi imperial stele → second-floor Independent Regiment reconstruction → historical exhibition → Chuxin Hall → Chuxin Pavilion → Xijiang viewing platform. This order starts with the building and calligraphy before moving into the Ye Ting-related exhibits, then finishes outside by the river.
The Kangxi imperial stele is in Chongwen Pavilion. The Ye Ting exhibition includes reconstructed meeting and living spaces. Visitors interested in history should allow 1.5–2 hours rather than treating the upper terrace as the whole visit.
Half a day: Yuejiang Tower and Gao Yao Academy
Yuejiang Tower → Gao Yao Academy → Songcheng Qilou Street → the ancient city wall or Piyun Tower. Gao Yao Academy is about a five-minute walk away, so the two historic sites can be visited together before lunch on Qilou Street.
If Piyun Tower is part of the afternoon, allow for its 16:30 last entry. Yuejiang Tower also stops entry at 16:30, so start this half-day route in the morning.

History route: architecture before the “Iron Army” history
Gate → Chongwen Pavilion → main hall and corridors → Ye Ting Independent Regiment reconstruction → historical exhibition → Chuxin Hall → viewing platform. Walk around the four linked sides of the courtyard first. This makes it easier to understand how the east, west, north and south buildings connect through corridors.
The exhibition uses reconstructed scenes and objects to explain the regiment’s formation, training and Northern Expedition. Follow the gallery order. Activities such as the young-guide programme depend on the day, so ask after entering rather than assuming they will run.
River route: keep the second-floor terrace for later
First-floor galleries and Chongwen Pavilion → second-floor terrace → Chuxin Pavilion → Xijiang viewing platform. The terrace provides the broad river view, while Chuxin Pavilion and the platform make better outdoor closing stops.
The riverside side is open and some positions do not have continuous railings. Do not climb over a barrier or move close to the edge for a photograph, and keep children accompanied on the terrace.
A city-walk route using walking and short taxis
Morning: Yuejiang Tower and Gao Yao Academy. Lunch: Qilou Street. Afternoon: the ancient city wall or Piyun Tower. Yuejiang Tower is about 1.3 km from the wall, with a five-minute walk or taxi ride listed as a reference.
If you want the night fountain at Seven Star Crags Archway, add it after dinner rather than cutting the museum visit short. Complete the reservation and ID registration first; the night view is an optional later stop.
Get there
The front parking lot is the simplest option
Drive to “Yuejiang Tower Front Parking Lot.” After arriving, show an ID card and report the number of people in the car. From Zhaoqing Railway Station, a taxi takes about 10–15 minutes. From Zhaoqing East Railway Station, take the K01 route and then transfer to a city bus.
City bus routes 15 and 27 stop at Yuejiang Tower. Routes 1 and 6 stop at Shizi Road, about a ten-minute walk away. If you use public transport, check the return route before entering.
Walk to Gao Yao Academy
Gao Yao Academy is about five minutes on foot from Yuejiang Tower. The two sites fit together even in poor weather because most of the visit is indoors or under cover, but the riverside platform still depends on wind and rain.
After leaving, take a taxi to Qilou Street, the ancient city wall or Paifang Square. Since the museums have similar hours, complete the reservation-based Yuejiang Tower visit first and leave the open street walks for later.
Know before you go
Monday closure and 16:30 last entry
Yuejiang Tower is closed on Mondays. From Tuesday to Sunday, last entry is 16:30. A reservation or on-site QR registration does not allow late arrival, and you still need the original ID card.
Flash photography is prohibited, and some exhibits cannot be touched. The visit moves between galleries, corridors and steps, so wear comfortable shoes rather than treating it as a doorway-only stop.
Parking and family activities
The front parking lot is convenient for drivers, with the listed spaces usually sufficient. 09:00–11:00 is generally quieter for viewing the stele, reconstructed rooms and riverside architecture.
The young-guide activity may be available for children, depending on the day. Children still need to follow the quiet-gallery and no-touch rules, and interactive programming does not replace adult supervision.
